Vincent’s Clam Bar Pizza Carle Place, NY

A long time ago in Naples somebody’s grandparents perfected the art of making pizza and did it with love and attention to freshness. And so it goes at the temple of italian fare on Long Island, Vincent’s Clam Bar, pizza chef from Naples, Italy included.

Only available from Monday through Thursday, this legendary landmark of fine dining always seems to surprise me with something old, something new. Although, never borrowed, never blue. Some have said that Vincent’s Clam Bar even has the best Mozzarella Wedges they have tasted, others argue the pasta with garlic and oil is the best. Whatever the owner Bobby does here, is done correctly, since there is usually a wait of an hour or more and well worth it. Many of you reading this, probably have eaten there already and know how good it is.

Tonight my friends and I were treated to an unexpected surprise, a well made old school margherita abeetz pizza from Vincent’s.

Abeetza Pizza – My New Favorite Pizza in Long Island (From Mad Greek)

Editors Note: We usually never allow reviewers to give out a perfect slice rating, until they have covered dozens of pizza places for us. After speaking with Mad Greek, he managed to convince me that this pizza deserved the 8 out of 8 slice ranking he gave them. I haven’t tried this pizza yet, so I am still not forming an opinion until I try it myself, at which point this rating might change 🙂

Mad Greek here. Congratulations to Joseph DeLorenzo and his staff for making Abeetza Pizza in Greenvale the number one parlor pizzeria on Long Island in my opinion.

So there is no mistake, Abeetza Pizza in Greenvale may be a traditional New York parlor type pizzeria by their size and location, it nevertheless has separated itself from the pack by, among other things, preparing every day, on premise, fresh eclectic and traditional assortments of pizza and other fine italian specialties and salads. The fare at Abeetza Pizza in Greenvale, NY is nothing short of the scale of top notch epicurian style and taste that one would beg of an Iron Chef and any fine italian eatery. Come to think of it, Mr. Eataly himself, Mario Batali, could pick up a pointer or two by checking out Abeetza’s offerings. Just as Lady Ga-Ga. Her name says it all. And she does, going Ga-Ga twice a week for Abeetza Pizza as she jet sets in and out of Teterboro with nearly half of Abeetza’s food on their menu, pizza included.

As for Abeetza’s pizza, it starts with Fresh made whole milk mozzarella twisted every day on premise along with deep kettle cauldrons of several styled traditional and non-traditional sauces for all dishes.

Emilio’s Pizza Commack, NY

Went into Commack the other day, while traveling through Long Island, and met the Mad Greek for some pizza. Since Mad Greek previously thought the pizza at Fanatico Pizza in Jericho, NY was exceptional, we decided to give another family member of the Branchinelli Clan a taste test. It amazes me how different pizza can taste from the same family using the same ingredients. In my opinion, the pizza at Branchinelli’s in Hauppauge has tasted the best. Yes better than Colosseo’s Pizza, and better than Pasta-eria in Plainview. With tastebuds ready, we walked into Emilio’s Pizza in Commack.

When I walked in, I kind of felt like the staff looked at me like I was an idiot (which many people I have met would agree with….I am an idiot sometimes). I asked them where I should sit. Is this a grab a slice and sit down myself place, or do I sit with a server, since there were no signs guiding me either way. We ultimately (reluctantly) decided to go with a server, since we didn’t understand how it would work otherwise. It was something to the affect, if you just get slices you can sit yourself, if you get a salad or a dish you must use a server….blah blah blah.

La Cucina Bar Pizza Smithtown New York

Went with my parents to grab some pasta the other night at La Cucina in Smithtown, NY. While we were waiting for our food, the waitress brought us over the delicious looking bar pizza pie, that you see above, which was supposed to be for take out, but never got picked up. The staff was nice enough to present it to us, and boy am I happy they did, as I am sure after reading this post, they will be equally as happy.

There is a place named Eddie’s Pizza in New Hyde Park which is legendary on Long Island for there amazing crisp, thin crust, bar pizza. For those of you who have had the pleasure of stopping by Eddie’s Pizza, you know precisely what I mean when I describe it as delicious. Honestly, I don’t think I have tried many other bar pies throughout the country that can compete with it. Well La Cucina in Smithtown, Long Island comes pretty close and is worth the try.

Fanatico Pizza Jericho, NY Best Pizza Jericho

All in the family! Talk about pizza and fine Italian food! Emelio’s of Commack (run by Emelio); Pasteria of Plainview(run by Mike); and Fanatico of Jericho, (run by John).

While there is more than plenty to choose from at the fine dining locale called Fanatico (Fanatic), being uno fanatico della abeetz, I passed up the parlor specials for a draw at the old school artesian with fixings from San Marzano.

What’s in a San Marzano margherita pie? Well, I’m glad you asked. For starters, San Marzano tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and fresh garlic and fresh dough and a fresh smile on your face when you eat Fanatico’s signature family style, oversized, artesian old school Margherita pizza.

Martino’s Pizza Kings Park, NY

On a day when the stock market has seen its worst declines since the Flash Crash of May 6, 2010, and the epitaph of what could be the last year and the death of “Change 2008”, comes another disappointment in the form of pizza.

I first took notice of Martino’s Pizza Restaurant of Kings Park, NY a year ago as it stood opposite the Clayton Funeral Home, a place of temporary rest for a dearly departed friend. I’m sure if he were still alive and knew I was heading to Martino’s Pizza he probably would have told me where I could have found better.

It’s truly a shame as the place looks nice inside and probably is a big hit with the locals as well, but not with me.

Frantoni’s Pizza Williston Park, NY

Williston Park might actually be a mini Fort Knox of pizza on Long Island.

Just a couple of blocks from the East Williston train station, and right in the middle of a dense pizza geography lies the gem of a place called Frantoni’s Pizza. There are two locations. Williston Park and East Meadow (their full menu and sit down Italian restaurant). Is there any doubt how good they make their food and pizza? Well, right around the corner from their East Meadow spot was Villa Grande. Two pizza enter, one get eaten. Frantoni’s Pizza is still there blasting out pies and meatballs.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the same happened in Williston Park, where they are across the street from Angelina’s II on the same stretch.

Lenny’s Pizza Jamesport, Long Island Best Pizza

Approximately 90 miles from Port Richmond – Staten Island, and the great Denino’s Pizza (one of the best pizza I have ever tried) is the tucked away gem of a pizzeria in Jamesport – Long Island named Lenny’s. Lenny’s Pizza makes traveling out to Jamesport on the North Fork of Long Island worth it.

Here you will find another classic New York pizza chef named Jimmy who clearly understands how to make a thin crust New York style neopolitan pie. Lenny’s Pizza has a secret sauce that is sweet and spicy topped with a blended low fat and grande cheese that blows away the competition east of Wading River / Shirley and likely all of the North and South Fork territories. Its important to note that there are other places to grab a fine artesian pie in the Eastern portion of Long Island. But here, as is many the case, Lenny’s Pizza falls under the classification of New York style parlor pizza.

Abeetza Pizza Greenvale, NY

A small plate, a big slice, and a big taste. Cheech, ABEETZ!!!

And look out Ralph’s! Let the battle of the deep fried calzones begin. Abeetza  Pizza is a specialty pizza shoppe in Greenvale, NY, directly across the street from Grace’s Marketplace (one of the finest fresh food emporiums for the epicurious in NY).

Some places pretend to make specialty pizza, Abeetza Pizza hardly has to pretend – they are the real deal. Whether straight neopolitan, sicilian, grandma, grandpa, crispino, etc. you name it… its all good. Its very, very good.

Da Angelo Pizza Albertson, near Williston Park, Long Island

Tonight’s pizza tasting tour in New York is brought to you by the Mad Greek and the king of cheese Mozzweiser. This is the first review of the two places I had on this fine evening.  The second one will follow a day or so after this one.

As they say, it had to be done. 2000 calories later and it was done. First stop of this evenings tour was at the former Cugini Due (pronounced Coo-Genie Due-ay) of Williston Park, now Da Angelo Pizza (same family, same family recipe).
