Phil’s II Pizzeria and Restaurant Massapequa, NY

In a half vacant shopping center in Massapequa is where you will find Phil’s II Pizzeria and Restaurant. I was out visiting some family and they suggested we try Phil’s Pizza out since they thought it was some of the best pizza around the Massapequa area. Someone offering me a chance to try some great pizza? Of course I didn’t say no.

Phil’s II Pizza was filled to capacity on this Sunday night. Many seemingly appeared to be regulars, based upon the way the staff and management greeted them. Phil’s II Pizzeria and Restaurant serves up large portions of plain vanilla Italian fare in what is politely called a really tacky Italian restaurant complete with awful tacky street scene paintings.

Colony Grill Pizza Stamford, CT Best Pizza

For several years readers have emailed me telling me about this must try pizza dive in Stamford, Connecticut named The Colony Grill. After getting dozens of emails I started to research the place where I learned it was actually a bar on one side, and eatery that served nothing but pizza on the other side. The photos of the pizza at The Colony Grill in Stamford reminded me of a place we used to have in Boca Raton that I loved and frequented often called Euro Pizza, so I couldn’t wait to one day make my way to Stamford and check this joint out.

Even some close Twitter friends who know how finicky I am with pizza described The Colony Grill to be some of the best pizza they have had in the country. Knowing how close Stamford is to New Haven, where some of the best pizza places are actually located in Connecticut I really couldn’t imagine The Colony Grill being able to compete.

Yard House Boca Raton, FL Pizza

When the National Cartoon Museum in Mizner Park closed down, most of Boca Raton didn’t shed a tear. Personally I was sad to see it go, since it still brought people to the city, and it was a nice way to spend the day with your children. The building stayed vacant for a while, and there was talk of many other things opening in this location, but nothing ever seemed to pan out.

Recently a Yard House opened up in part of the building and the place has been buzzing ever since, with no immediate signs of slowing down. I had to go in and try the place when I realized they had pizza on the menu.

Deck 84 Delray Beach Pizza

Was a bit bored the other day but equally as happy it wasn’t raining. The last thing I wanted to do is be cooped up in my house doing nothing all day, so I decided to meet Herb and check out a place I have heard many people recommend to me called Deck 84 in Delray Beach. It is one of those places that you pass by regularly and never realize it is there since it is located below the ramp to cross the intracoastal heading east on Atlantic Ave.

Herb told me during one of his previous visits to Deck 84 in Delray Beach that their flatbread was delicious and I had to try it. So after figuring out how to get to Deck 84 we wandered in and grabbed a seat in the covered area outside.

Anton Pizzeria and Brick Oven Pizza Center Moriches Pizza

Was coming home from the Hamptons the other day since we got rained on. On the way back we stopped and had some ice cream and then decided to grab some dinner. My uncle knew of a place in in the Moriches which has been known to have some of the best pizza in Center Moriches named Anton Pizzeria and Brick Oven Pizzas.

Although my aunt suggested we try the Brick Oven Pizzas which Anton Pizza is known for, we chose to get a regular pie instead since that is what the kids seemed to want. I probably would have preferred to try one of the Brick Oven Pizzas since they are quite popular among the locals, but like usual the kids won, and I didn’t want to make an all day event out of this dining experience.

Ta-boo Palm Beach Worth Ave Pizza

Went to a charity event at Ta-boo Restaurant in Palm Beach the other night to help out the Fisher House. I have always enjoyed my meals at Ta-boo during my previous visits to Worth Ave, but I never ordered the pizza there. I do not even think I ever noticed pizza on the menu at Ta-boo, so when I saw them serving pizza during the event, I couldn’t wait to check it out. During a previous visit to Ta-boo I actually sat at a table next to Rod Stewart for what it is worth.

The waiters were placing small pies cut up into even smaller bite size pizzas, with nothing to pick them up with, and I was getting disgusted watching all the attendees grab the slices with their hands, so I waited for the next fresh pie to come out and grabbed a few slices before anyone else could manhandle them.

Mannino’s Pizza Margate, FL

We were heading back home from the car dealer down in Sunrise, and I decided to take 441 North and see if I could stumble upon any pizza places I hadn’t tried before. We drove by a couple that didn’t look too good from the outside, and in lieu of possibly having my car broken into, I decided to just drive past and find another place.

When I was about to make a turn onto Coconut Creek Parkway, I noticed a sign from the street that said Mannino’s Pizza. Since I couldn’t see where it was in the plaza, I wasn’t even sure if there was such a place anymore. We made a quick turn into the Crossroads Plaza in Margate and found it midway through, hidden behind another outparcel. If you didn’t know Mannino’s Pizza was here, you would pass it daily and never know it was back there.

Red Zone Pizza Boca Raton, FL

Well it didn’t take long for Alfeo’s Pizza in Boca Raton to sell and move on. While passing by what used to be called Alfeo’s Pizza on Palmetto Park Road, I noticed the sign changed and was no longer called Alfeo’s Pizza. The new name was Red Zone Pizza, so I had to stop by and check it out to see what insight I could gain about what happened to the previous owners. For all I knew, it was still owned by the same couple, and they just changed the name.

Upon heading inside, the place looked cleaner and sure enough all the signs now said Red Zone Pizza. I noticed that one of the owners of Alfeo’s was still there so I asked her how come she changed the name. She said that Red Zone Pizza took the Boca Raton beach location over and they were helping during the transition. I sure hoped this transition didn’t mean higher prices and lower quality. Alfeo’s made a nice Sicilian slice.

Brother’s Pizza Staten Island, NY

After many pizza trials in Long Island, we ventured into Staten Island, which has been known to actually have some of the best pizza in the entire state of New York. I know that many will find it odd that Staten Island possesses some of the most well known pizzerias but they do. Brooklyn obviously is more known for having the best pizza, so it was hard driving through it in order to try some new places in Staten Island, but we managed not to stop (at least on the way there).

Our first stop on our Staten Island pizza tour brought us to Brother’s Pizza on Port Richmond Ave., which I have heard from some trusted sources is the best Sicilian slice of pizza in Staten Island. I was told that the regular slice is decent, but not really worth stuffing into my mouth, especially if doing several other pizza places that evening. When I saw the regular it looked good so I ordered a plain slice and a Sicilian.
