Fresh Harvest Buffet Coconut Creek Casino Pizza

Mrs. Pizza and I wanted to treat ourselves to the $7.95 all you can eat lunch buffet offered every Wednesday and Thursday at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino.  Let me tell you, this place was much nicer than I thought it would be.

I wanted pizza and was pleasantly surprised to see a nice display of hot fresh pies.  I had a slice with sausage and peppers.  It was pleasant at first, but tasted a little too institutional.  Since I am usually a purist and prefer a cheese slice, I was looking forward to my 2nd slice.  I thought it would be better than my first.  Unfortunately, it was more disappointing.
While I just didn’t care for it, Mrs. Pizza described it as rubbery and watery.  I would prefer Pizza Hut to this pizza, and like Pizza Hut, its better when you load it up with toppings.  Fortunately, there were a lot of non-pizza options to consider.  A pasta bar, a grill with HUGE burgers and hot dogs, a tremendous dessert display; all with generous portions.  Let me tell you, after 2 slices of pizza, a burger, hot dog and pasta with clam sauce I was STUFFED.  You need a players card to get this deal, and the line was VERY long to get one.  For $7.95 this deal can not be beat, just don’t go for the pizza!  4 out of 8 slices.

Marias Opinion of Gio’s Pizza in Sanford Florida

After all the heated debate about the pizza at Gio’s, I decided I needed to actually try it for myself.  I for one think that similar to beauty being in the eye of the beholder, good pizza is in the taste buds of the diner.  That being said, I wasn’t too impressed with the pizza at Gio’s.  It was definitely under cooked and the cheese was falling off it.  Being the neat and proper woman that I am, this is never any good. Those that know me- I can hear you snickering from here 🙂  The crust, had it been cooked enough, had a good taste and was just right- not too thin nor too thick.  Overall I wouldn’t say it was a bad pizza, but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to go there.  We also had a shrimp rockefeller appetizer which was really good…a dish where there can’t be too much cheese, and also a Greek salad which I really enjoyed.  An average pizza, I give it 4 out of 8 slices

Yes Some Parents Go Out Of Their Way To Get Costco Pizza in Boca Raton

Back on the birthday party circuit with this review.  Went to a party with my son the other day at a park, where the host had about a dozen or so pizza pies from Costco!  Yes, I said Costco Pizza.  Anyone who has visited Costco before probably knows they have extremely cheap food, and one of the main things they serve is pizza.

Although the price of the pizza currently slips my mind, I am sure it is cheaper then regular places.  Usually cheaper prices, means cheaper ingredients.  It is hard to judge pizza that has been picked up and sitting around outside in the humidity, but, being the expert I am, I was able to put together a pizza review.

The pie was a decent size, but the crust was a little too puffy, and chewy.  The sauce wasn’t put on too heavy, which is a good thing since the sauce wasn’t exactly gourmet.  The cheese was alright, and they used a generous amount of it.  All together the pie just didn’t taste like a regular pizza should, but for Costco, and for sitting out as long as it had it wasn’t nearly as dreadful as a place like Peace a Pizza in Boca Raton.

My curiosity as to why the host got Costco pizza is more of what I am concerned with.  Costco in Boca Raton is not conveniently located in the center of town.  So if you live to the west or south in Boca, you have to travel miles to get there.  With the price of gas being almost $4.00 a gallon, is it worth having to travel up to 10 miles out of your way to get Costco pizza to save a few bucks.  Doesn’t the cost of actually getting it, outweigh the savings?

To any parents reading this, or anyone in general who is thinking of throwing a party and ordering pizza from Costco, you should really consider if it is pretty much the same price to order from a quality place that delivers, and might discount the price if you buy in bulk.  Places like Casa L’Italien and Dominic’s in Boca Raton are much finer choices. Rumors even have it that Nino’s Pizza will soon be delivering!!  I will give Costco Pizza in Boca Raton 3 out of 8 slices.

Old Style Pizza Boynton Beach

Mrs. Pizza and I went to another birthday party with my sons pre-K class.  My favorite thing about going to kids birthday parties is definitely PIZZA!!!  Old Style Pizza was a new one for me, since the party was in Boynton Beach, FL.  I thought Old Style Pizza was an interesting name.  Unfortunately, the pizza was definitely old style.  And not in a good way.  It was like an old style frozen pizza.

That’s what the crust reminded me of.  There was nothing pleasant about eating the slice.  The sauce was heavy, as was the cheese.  My first slice had a topping, so I tried the plain slice.  Definitely tasted like frozen pizza.  The crust also tasted stale, giving new meaning to the word “Old” in this joint’s name.

My friend Mr. Magorium told me to give the place a break.  It’s not easy to make 20 pies and have them delivered.  He argues that it’s not the same as eating a fresh pie.  But I don’t agree.  This is their job.  To deliver pizza to birthday parties. And our children do not deserve to be served garbage just because it is cheap.  We should only want what is best for our kids, and that means getting pizza delivered with quality and healthy ingredients.

I give  Old Style Pizza in Boynton Beach 2 of 8 slices.

Louie’s Pizza at Halloween Horror Nights Universal Studios Orlando

As far as theme park food goes, Universal Studios in Orlando, makes good pizza. Most theme park pizza consists of overpriced personal sized pies, that seem to be nothing more than bad frozen pizzas. At Universal Studios, there is a restaurant in the New York section of the park called Louie’s Italian Restaurant. Here, they make full sized pies rather than the personal sized pizzas. The taste of the pizza, the willingness of the employees to do special orders on the toppings, as well as the imperfections in the crust lead me to believe that the restaurant employees are actually making the pies fresh in the back instead of just heating up pre-made frozen pizzas, which is a good thing. I visited Universal last Saturday for the second night of Halloween Horror Nights, and while I was there, I had dinner at Louie’s.

On this visit, I ordered a Garden Vegetable pizza, minus the mushrooms. It was a good pizza, but I had problems with the crust and the toppings. I thought the pie could have been cooked a little bit longer to make a slightly crispier crust, although it seemed consistent with the pizza I have eaten here in the past. A generous amount of the toppings were piled onto this pizza. There was no lack of green peppers and onions, but they didn’t seem to be cooked into the pizza too well. The toppings seemed like they were piled onto the pie halfway through cooking, so not all of them stuck to the cheese. It was a minor thing, and the pizza held together for the most part except for the occasional bell pepper that decided to escape.

Something interesting did happen while I was eating the pizza though. A guy in a wheelchair rolled up and dropped a business card with an American flag pin stuck through it. My initial thought was that he was handing out church propaganda to all of us ‘pagans’ that were enjoying our Halloween event, but it was worse than that. He was begging for money. The card talked about how he was deaf and for a donation of $3, we could keep the pin to help with his expenses. I wonder if those expenses included the admission that he paid to get into the park, which would have cost somewhere between $30 to $70. As we were eating, he probably made about $50 in ten minutes before coming back the section of the restaurant where I was sitting to either collect money or his card. By the end of the night, he must have made a huge amount of money if he worked all of the restaurants in this way. Whether he was really deaf or not, no one should be subjected to being solicited for money while eating your overpriced pizza, when you pay an overpriced admission to get into a theme park.

Other than that incident, I had a good time at Halloween Horror Nights, and I enjoyed my pizza. This pizza was a good 5 out of 8 slices.

Goodbye Bloomin Newmans or Pizza Express Whatever You Call It

Just drove by Pizza Express which used to be Bloomin’ Newman’s Pizza in Boca Raton, and realized it has closed.  This must be in part to the awful parking situation there, but I am sure 90% of it had to do with the quality of the pizza they were serving.

If you read our review on Bloomin Newmans / Pizza Express in Boca raton (Click Here) you will see I mentioned the review another author from a respected paper gave it. In this review she was saying how it was a Perfect Example of New York style pizza, and I said that there was nothing New York about this place.  This just goes to show that if you advertise in a paper or magazine, they will write up something nice about you.  Pretty much a Pay to Post or review in this case.

This is the very reason why you should not pay attention to the reviews that Newspaper reviewers give to a restaurant, as most of them are written up because they have advertised in that journal.  Stick to impartial reviews like ours, here at www.worstpizza.com.  Zoom in on the photo of the review on my previous post and you will see how honest her review is.  It mentions a busy counter even….usually when a place is busy it doesn’t close Meghan.

Remember worstpizza is out on the prowl and expanding its writing staff, so if you aren’t serving quality pizza it is only a matter of time before we discover it and let our thousands of daily readers know!

Giovanni’s Pizza Boca Raton – Oregano Overload

I would like to have a lunch mulligan, or a do-over for today’s lunch.  We headed to Giovanni’s for a deep dish pizza.  I am a NY style guy, but can appreciate the Chicago style from time to time.  I loved my times in Chicago when I had great pies at places like Pizzeria Uno (The Original), Gino’s with the walls that you can write on and the hidden gem Home Run pizza on the South side.  This pizza today was a slap in the face of the greats I just mentioned.  The sauce was tart and way chunky.  The oregano that was on the top of the pie was grossly over poured and left it tasting like the dirty spice rack at the Franco American Corporation.

The word Oregano is derived from the Greek words for “joy of the mountains.”  I found no joy in the flattest part of the flattest state in America. (The highest point in Florida is Britton Hill, Lakewood Park in Walton County and is only 345 feet above sea level.)

I did find Oregano!

As you can see from the picture there are 2 slices left.  We did not get them to go and it was not that I could not finish them as much as I did not want to finish them.  The place was also on the skanky side, and the bathroom was on the side of the building like a gas station off the highway.  I recommend eating the road kill you can readily find on the side of any road in S. FL. over this horrible thing they called a pizza.  After I wiped the oregano and sauce off the pizza it was still not even close to fair.

2 Slices out of 8 and that is being nice.  They even had some award for best pizza on the wall.  I will be conducting my own investigation on the source of this award.

Whole Foods Market Boca Raton Better Then Publix Greenwise Pizza

Found myself at Barnes & Nobles the other day looking for a book that was recommended to me called The Starfish and The Spider.  Two stores down in Boca Raton is Whole Foods Market.  I walked over to try to find lunch and my pizza radar led me to the back left section of the store, where I found the pizza oven.

Whole Foods has one of these new beautiful ovens set back with a fancy facade.  Their oven looked pretty similar to the one found at that dreaded Publix Greenwise market.  I ordered a couple of slices and sat down to eat them at the store.

Although this pizza certainly was a “whole” lot of money, it wasn’t worth the price.  Quality wise, I would certainly pick this pizza over the crap they are serving at Publix Greenwise in Boca Raton, but if you are in the mood for a decent slice, at a decent price, this is not the place.

Here is the problem:  The cheese had a certain tang to it, and although I do not doubt they are using fresh and quality ingredients, maybe the fancy healthy cheese they use actually doesn’t blend well with their sauce, which leads me to to discuss the sauce mixture.  Their sauce almost tasted like straight tomatoes (which I hate the taste of).  There was nothing sweet or tasty about it, and almost bland.  Where it wasn’t bland it was almost spicy.  Not sure how you can have zero taste in some spots, and over spicy in others, but obviously you are not applying your seasoning with care.

My visit to Whole Foods in Boca Raton leads me back to previous posts I have made here regarding fancy equipment.  Don’t waste your time on these expensive ovens, if you are going to put quality pizza into them.  If you put crap in, you will get crap out, regardless of the amount of money you spend on the oven.  I will give Whole Foods Market in Boca Raton 2 out of 8 slices.

Carolina’s Coal Fired Pizza Delray Beach

I don’t know why I let myself get excited. Every time I think I got a lead on a great new place, I am disappointed. And that’s how it was at Carolina’s. Carolina’s Pizza is located on 9 SE 7th Ave. in Delray Beach Florida 33483 (561) 278-1913. This pizza place located off the main street in a house was described as pretty good to me, so I was actually excited to try it. I went with Mrs. Pizza and we ordered 2 pies, 1 plain and the other with prosciutto ricotta and meatballs. The toppings were not hot. They were not even warm. The prosciutto tasted like regular ham. And at the temperature it was on the pizza, it reminded me of a cold ham sandwich. We even sent both pies back to be heated a little more, with no real result. The plain pie was OK, nothing special. It would have been better, I suppose, If it was hot. I am sensing a theme here. And the place wasn’t even crowded. When I eat pizza I want it to make me smile. This didn’t. I don’t think I’d go back. 3 of 8 slices.
