Bellini’s Pizza – My Opinion on the Coal Fired Pizza in Fort Lauderdale
A few weeks ago I noticed a new sign had been put up blocks away from my humble apartment, Bellini’s Coal Fired Pizza. Naturally, the first thing that came to mind was, “I better tell Lapp immediately.” Despite his busy schedule of pissing people off, we managed to schedule a dinner there for the same week. Imagine my excitement, another possibly delicious pizza option close by. Score. I waited for our night to come with baited breath.

Pizza Plus in San Clemente, CA
Although I usually have a place in mind, when I roll into a town, sometimes I like to play pizza roulette, and take my chances on any one of a dozen goofy factors, i.e. largest yellow pages ad, 3rd pizzeria on the left, and like that. This stems from adventures some buddies and I used to have back in the day, when we would take a deck of cards to the airport on a Friday nite, draw two cards, and subsequently go have an adventure (for example) at the destination of the 4th flight leaving from the 3rd counter. Ah, those were the days. The places I have (wished i hadn’t!) seen! LOL.

Pizza Time Sicilian Pizza Coral Springs Florida

Go ahead and find someone from the Coral Springs area of Florida and ask them what their favorite pizza place is, and you are more than likely to hear Pizza Time as their response. Let me make it clear, you would never hear this response from me.

New River Pizza Fort Lauderdale
During a previous review, one of our Experts Jarret, loved New River Pizza in Fort Lauderdale. I gave him the benefit of the doubt since he was pretty spot on, when it came to other places we both liked. Since we had previously agreed on the others, I decided not to print my previous negative review I had written about New River pizza, and instead print his. But after trying this pizza again, I had to give my opinion.

Augy’s Pizza Boca Raton Has Original Owners Back
Just heard from a credible source that Augy’s Pizza in Boca Raton, has the original owners back. About three years ago, the family that ran Augy’s (they also own the plaza) sold the restaurant to a family out of Long Island. Well I guess business started to go downhill, and the original family repurchased the store and are trying to turn it around and bring it back to its original glory.

Boca Pizza and Sandwiches Boca Raton

Yet another disappointment…Went back to Boca Pizza the other day, and ordered a slice. From my previous review of this place, you probably know that I found the pizza to be pretty damn good. It had a different taste to it then any other pie I have found locally. This turned many off, but I found the uniqueness in it, and enjoyed it. The slice I had today was quite awful!

C-Store Pizza Suppliers
Got to wondering about c-mart and gas station pizzas/foods after writing about a couple of them here, Hunts Brothers and Bellarico NY Style. I’m only talking about small licensed operations, not co-branded c-stores that have full-size food franchise operations within, like Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, Dominos, and so on.
I’m not really sure who was the pioneer in this area, but the concept seems to be fairly wide-spread across the country now, with even 7-Eleven announcing they will jump into the fray with their own house brand pizza and wings, available 24 hours.
A cluster of these companies is centered in the Upper Midwest, so I suspect at least one company was spawned by former execs from another, of a family split. Since the Upper Midwest is so dominant in the frozen pizza manufacturing business (Freschetta, Tony’s, Red Baron, Totinos, DiGiorno,Tombstone, Jack’s….and those are just the companies I know of in Minnesota and Wisconsin, so maybe former execs from some of those companies started these concepts. No matter.

Mr. Pronto Pizza Restaurant Boca Raton

On our way to buy some holiday gifts down in Coconut Creek, we passed by the spot that used to house Tony’s Authentic Brooklyn Pizza, and realized it had reopened under a new name. Mr. Pronto Pizza Restaurant did some minor redesigning, applied some ugly color paint on the walls, and took down some of the photos that once adorned the walls, and seem to be taking a gamble at making this location work.

Trattoria Pizzeria at the Aviano Inn, Italy

I speak only for myself when talking about real pizza from Italy. I am no expert but I can surely describe how lightly the pizza is made there.
Right in the northeastern region of Italy, in the town of Aviano, lies Trattoria Pizza at the Aviano Inn. It is situated not too far from The Aviano Airbase. Having never gone to Italy before, I was a bit clueless as to how the Italians made their pizza.

Southern Minnesota Pizza at Casey’s General Stores
Starting with a single Iowa location in the 50s, Casey’s has grown to nearly 1500 stores. I’ve seen many of them in very small burgs, where they were the only commercial business, a lifeline to the community for groceries, gas, pizza, and baked goods.
Pizzas are prepared on site, and I’ve been eating their slices for 25 years. They’ll do in a pinch!
This location was in Southern Minnesota, north of Worthington. Isn’t it nice they put little tags on the slices so you can tell which is pepperoni, which is sausage? LOL. Something about the way they bake the cheese by the crust that is just great!
