Sunset Family Pizza Gold Beach, OR

“Employee entrance only – Carla’s Kitchen” says the sign on the back door. Online references state that this is the former home of a place called “Grants Cafe”. But now, it’s all about “Sunset Family Pizza.” Is that a family named “Sunset?” Or an indication that the restaurant is “family friendly?” I didn’t care enough to ask, when I was zipping thru Gold Beach, Oregon on a late night return from a biz meeting in Crescent City, California, a town so dreary, it doesn’t deserve more than this single sentence from me.

Boca’s Best Pizza Boca Raton

Recently, Big Louie’s closed down in Boca Raton. I wasn’t sure if this was due to their lack of quality tasting pizza, or all the rodents that probably infest this decrepit shopping center, which is located right near the train tracks on Palmetto Park Road.

Downtown Pizzeria Pompano Beach Pizza
Over nine months have passed since my first WorstPizza review, a scathing indictment of a little place in east Pompano Beach called Downtown Pizzeria. Responses in the comment section ranged from general agreement to threats of kicking my ass. A new comment under my review was brought to my attention recently when someone noted the restaurant had gone through some positive changes including new management. Assured I should give it a second chance, I recently made not one, but TWO trips back to Downtown Pizzeria to be absolutely certain of the quality of their product.

Tony’s “Party Time” Crispy Crust Frozen Pizza
Went bottom fishing in the frozen pizza section of my grocery store the other day, and reeled in some Tony’s “New” Crisp Crust Pizza. Tony’s is one of the brands (along with Freschetta and Red Baron) manufactured by the Schwan’s Food Company of Minnesota. Schwans started the same year I was born, delivering ice cream directly to rural homes. They’ve come along way since then, but you can still get ice cream (and other goodies) delivered by your local Schwan’s guy, click here for the selections.

First Chevy Pizza Crawl was Amazing
Saturday marked the start of a new endeavor for the creators and readers of Worstpizza.com. We have teamed up with Chevrolet Cars to hold monthly #chevypizzacrawl events. Our first event took place at 5 pizza spots throughout Palm Beach County. Safe to say this was one of the most fun pizza events I have held, and cannot wait until next month for our second pizza crawl. This will most likely take place throughout Broward County.
When Chevy first approached me with this event through the brilliant Stephanie Carmargo (@midtownchica), I instantly knew it was a golden opportunity not only for Chevy and Worstpizza, but for the lucky pizza places we would choose for the “tour.” These hand picked pizza shops would get access to thousands of new eyes on the social web, and looking back through the tweets and updates, it was invaluable for many of them.

Maggiano’s Pizza Boca Raton
My son ordered the pizza from Maggiano’s in Boca Raton the other day after putting up a fight that he didn’t want to eat anything there. Not sure why, but throughout his entire life, he has always seemed to be against anything we wanted to do. Kinda like that song from Groucho Marx “whatever it is, I’m against it.” Maggiano’s Pizza.

Rivermont Pizza Lynchburg, Virginia
Every time I’ve walked into Rivermont Pizza, I’m greeted by the fantastic vibe it gives off. It’s small and rustic feeling, nothing fancy, but very functional. The selection of beer is one of the best I’ve encountered – always lots of great locally brewed choices and never a let down. Up until this last visit, that was the only reason I went there. Despite the name, I’ve always been leery of places that pass themselves off as a proper bar and eatery – see the review of The Lodge in Boca – big time pizza fail.

NYPD Pizza in Maitland, FL

Several years ago, the original NYPD Pizza was located on Orange Ave in Downtown Orlando. This NYPD had awesome pizza, easily the best in Orlando. Not only was it really good, but they were also pretty authentic when it came to actually serving a product that closely resembled New York Style pizza. Lou Pearlman had some sort of connection to the store so on occasion you would see local celebrities from the various boy-bands that he managed in the restaurant which was always interesting.
