Pizza Caboose Tigard Oregon

Pizza preferences are such a personal thing, aren’t they? One man’s cheese eden is another man’s slop. Same with crust, sauce, toppings. I can forgive a lot of deficiencies if the crust and/or toppings are superb.

Pizza Caboose, in Tigard, OR, a suburb of Portland, delivers there pizzas in “radio dispatched trucks with ovens”, and judging by the size of the fleet when I have driven past this joint, a lot of people’s personal preferences must match the Caboose’s recipe.

Bella Bar & Restaurant Focaccia Pizza Dallas

My associate, who I come to see regularly in Dallas, swears by this restaurant in downtown Dallas called Bella Bar & Restaurant.  It seems like every time I am in town, it is a given we will take the 30 minute drive to eat there. Can’t say it upsets me, that this has become the norm.  Bella is a fantastic establishment with a great menu, and even better atmosphere. Seems like no expenses were spared on the decor around the bar area and eating vicinity.

Safeway Frozen Pizza – All Pizzas Deserve a Review

Safeway (and Von’s, Randalls, and Tom Thumb Markets) have a number of quality in house branding concepts, among them is the “Select” line of frozen meals.

I picked up the “Primo Italian Meat Ultra Thin Crust Pizza”, which includes toppings of capicola, crumbled Italian sausage, and Genoa Salami, covered with a blend of Mozzarella, Parmesan, and Romano Cheeses.

The pie weighs in at a mere 14.25 ounces, due to the thin crust, and retails for about $6 at our local stores.

Thirsty Pagan Brewpub Pizza Superior, WI

Back when I was a sprout, and just discovering alcohol, it was kind enough for Wisconsin to lower the drinking age to 18, and my pals and I merely needed to cross a bridge to imbibe. Along Tower Avenue, the former street of glory in Superior, Wisconsin, there were a number of bars, but most notably, the dive called “Tommy Byrnes”, where we got 15 cent tap beers and 45 cent mixed drinks (yep!). Really the only place around to eat was The Elbo Room, with Sammy’s Pizza, but no complaints there.

Just Pizza Buffalo, New York

justpizza.jpgjustpizza_slice.jpgThere are many reasons to go to a food event, that has a Pizza Show built into it. This was the case recently in Orlando when PMQ was kind enough to give me some tickets to the Pizza event there.

While I was there, there were many different vendors offing out products and tastings.  Only one of them caught my interest though. Just Pizza out of Buffalo, New York is a small chain with about 16 locations, and more opening shortly as they expand their franchising efforts.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Mushroom Pizza

Whenever we are feeling fat and sassy on the domestic scene, Mrs. BDB and I include a trip (just for an item or two) to our local Trader Joe’s, and invariably come home with a basket load of groceries, as I imagine most patrons do.

We go primarily for their coffee beans, juice spiked sparkling waters, one or two other things, but always have to try “something new”, and there’s always something new at TJ’s.

Semolina Pizza Millburn, NJ

semolina.jpgThe other pie my wife brought to me during my taping in Springfield was from Semonlina.  She said from the street, seeing that wood burning oven enticed her to come on in. I couldn’t help but feel the same way when I looked inside before going to my filming.

Few times I meet a pizza owner whose attitude could make the pizza taste better then it probably did, and this own is one of those guys.  Joseph, the owner is a class act. He Cares about his products and his customers more than is regularly expected.

Pizzeta Pizza Millburn, NJ

pizzeta.jpgMy wife was nice enough to bring this pizza to me while I was filming in Springfield.  She also brought me pizza from Semolina pizza, but we will review that in the near future.  Pizzeta was one of the two places we noticed in Milburn, while checking out the town. It seemed nice from the outside and I wanted to go in myself, but I had to be at my taping within 10 minutes of our drive, and I didn’t want to take the chance.

Sirrico’s Pizza Hollywood Hard Rock Casino

Now this is not going to be a typical review, so let me explain. We have all had food in different circumstances such as being really hungry or having a craving for something special. So this is review of wanting and having a couple slices after a long night out.  I have had the most amazing tacos in the wee hours of the morning, yet when I tried them during the day they were not the same. I have had pizza that was amazing no matter what time I ate it.  The verdict was out when we came upon Sirricos in the food court of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel.

La Villa Pizza Restaurant Park Slope Brooklyn

lavillapizza.jpgvillapizza.jpgWe met up with Adam from Slice and enjoyed some upside down Sicilian pizza with him the other week.  Adam suggested we go to La Villa Pizza since it was close by to him, and out of all the other places we were going to try this seemed most convenient.  I was quite anxious to meet Adam after all this time.  We run two of the largest pizza review sites in the world, and it seemed only fitting that we finally shared a slice or two together.
