Brother’s Pizza Fresh Meadows, NY Best Pizza

With my car overheating in 101 degree weather, trapped under the BQE (that’s the Brooklyn Queens Expressway for those unfamiliar with one of the worst roadways in America) one can play the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies in one’s head while the car cools down and recite the old sayings over and over… “There’s no place like home.”.

And so it was today for the Mad Greek. Once home, there’s was only one thing left for his madness to do and that was to end the pain and suffering of a day gone bad. To do just that all I needed was a spot at the counter at Brothers Pizzeria. By 3:00 pm, clear of any further NYC traffic and heat wave jihads, I was home again and sitting in front of Joe, arguable the best pizza chef in all of New York.

WorstPizza.com on NPR Today

We are psyched to have been on NPR today discussing pizza. We were heard on WLRN in Miami. Unfortunately due to policies, we were not able to specifically mention the names of the places during the broadcast, and many readers and listeners have asked us to publish the names of the two places that we said we really liked.  Although there are many great places throughout the listening area, we tried to focus on only a couple that quickly came to mind. If we had more time we would have mentioned dozens of other places throughout the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area, so we apologize to the places that we love, but still managed to neglect. Here are the two places:

Kitchen Nightmares Infographic – Lots of Failures

Our parent company The Pizza Experts, just released this infographic to show just how unhelpful Gordon Ramsey and his show Kitchen Nightmares is. As you can see, most of the restaurants close after being helped by him. Not sure why a restaurant would even want to be on the show after seeing what happens to the majority of the others. The statistics don’t lie. Feel free to share this. Click CONTINUE READING below to view the infographic:

Positano’s Pizza Williston Park, Long Island

After having some delicious pizza at Da Angelo Pizza in Williston Park, NY, I was off to Positano’s Pizza in Williston Park too. And my hat’s off to them as well. If you’re banking on a great tasting, perfect textured crust, Positano’s may make one of the finest crusts and finishes you will find at a pizzeria anywhere on Long Island.

The sauce was perfectly applied, and tasted sweet and great on top of the amazing crust. This is the type of crust that could keep people coming here for decades and still wonder how they get it so right.

Scuola Vecchia Pizza Delray Beach, FL

It seems like there is a new pizza place opening up everywhere you look in Delray Beach, FL. After reading a recent article in a local publication, I guess it isn’t just pizza places, but restaurants in general. I think something like over 80% of businesses opening on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, are restaurants, so I guess we shouldn’t single out pizza here. However, a new pizzeria called Scuola Vecchia just opened, and the City of Delray Beach should be quite thankful!

Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Boca Raton – For My Kids

Recently, Chuck E. Cheese’s announced a new improved pizza. This wasn’t only for their Boca Raton location, but all across the country. I know many of you will say, well its about time they stopped serving us dog crap like pizza, the way Domino’s does, but is better crap still crap? Now, secretly,I liked their pizza and enjoyed many afternoons with my son playing games and eating pizza. I know this could completely negate any pizza advice I give in the future, but there was something about Chuck E. Cheese pizza growing up that made me think of happy and fun times, and I took this all the way into my adult life. Now, don’t get me wrong, as an adult, I realized this pizza was maybe a little bit better than some of the worst pizza out there like Domino’s, but I still liked going there anyways, as the experience of the place added a bit to the taste. For any parents out there who have to sometimes sacrifice fine dining for a childlike atmosphere, you will know the compromises you make when it comes to taste. Sometimes excitement makes things just taste better.

Bar Frites Pizza Greenvale, Long Island

Just about anyone can get into the pizza game nowadays. By all rights thay should, including McDonalds, and even Dunkin Donuts at some select locations. I’d like to think of Pizza the way a bond trader looks at a yield curve from the risk free excellence of Johnny’s Pizza in Mt. Vernon down to the junk one might find at Filippo’s in New Brunswick, N.J.

American Grills, French Bistros, Mexican Cantinas and, as hard to believe as I’ve just heard through the grapevine, Japanese Restaurants are edging artesian pizza in on the menu, yes you heard me right.

Grimaldi’s Pizza Limelight New York City

In the first season of Sex and the City, only real New Yorkers knew that “the Church of Disco” was a real place, and that place was the Limelight. Like any club, it always seemed cooler in the past. I never went dancing there. I wasn’t that cool. I did attend a few artsy events in the converted church on Sixth Avenue, but it didn’t live up to the stories I’d heard from other people.

Despite any meaningful personal experience with the space, when the building was repurposed yet again last year, I was offended to hear that it had gone retail. Divided into booths like a flea market, most of the vendors sell pretentious, high-end, useless things. And they were sold out of the Rhubarb bitters I wanted.

When I heard that Grimaldi’s pizza was opening a satellite restaurant on the ground floor, I was conflicted. Was this evidence that the Once-best had turned into the tourist trap that many claimed? Would the Limelight pull out a velvet rope again?

Pizza Bar South Beach Miami – Biggest Slice of Pizza

After spending another hot and humid day in South Beach, we were walking back to our hotel, when I noticed a place called Pizza Bar, right near the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Miami Beach. They had this sign in the window that stated that they have the best slices of pizza in South Beach, so it intrigued me enough to walk inside and take a look. Pizza Bar was very much like all the other pizza places on South Beach, long and narrow and a glass display of the slices they are offering. The one thing Pizza Bar did have differently than most of their competitors was how enormous their slices actually were. They were  HUGE! This made me feel the need to try one of them to see if they were any good.

Ralph’s Pizza Bayville, Long Island

Having just moved to Bayville over the winter(a great little beach front community on the North Shore of Long Island), I have been driving by Ralph’s Pizza for several months without a care to even stop and learn to love a new neighborhood pizzeria. Its a bit selfish, but on a personal note, it is hard to consider neighborhood pizzerias having grown up in Fresh Meadows eating at Brothers Pizzeria, the very best of all neighborhood pizzerias on the planet New York.

Don’t believe me? Ask the 30 Rock pizza expert Alec Baldwin and he’ll tell you the same. What’s more he’s not from Fresh Meadows. But he demands that his driver stop there on every trip home from JFK for a slice. Enough of that as I’ve convinced myself to run back home to review Brothers tomorrow after 50 years of greatness.
