Primanti Brothers Pizza Fort Lauderdale on Oakland Park

Although I found the pizza at Primanti Bros Pizza on Sunrise and a1a on the beach in Fort Lauderdale to be decent, I just couldn’t get over how filthy the place was, and how unsanitary the cooking conditions were. This was not a place I would rush back to go, so I never really thought their other location on Oakland Park, right outside of Wilton Manors would be any different. Recently I had to meet Andy and we decided that Primanti Brothers (or Primanti Bros.) on Oakland Park would be a decent choice since neither of us had tried it before, and we wanted to see if it was as gross as the beach location.
From the outside, Primanti Bros is located in a nice clean looking brick building. The parking lot was a bit full but they had plenty of spaces to accomodate more. We wandered on in and found a booth. Although Primanti Bros at this location was clean and nice, it wasn’t as nice as I had hoped from the outside appearance. We got a couple of sodas and looked over the menu debating on what appetizers to check out since they all appeared delicious.

Pacci’s Neapolitan Pizzeria Silver Spring, MD

Pizza and technology often make for the perfect team! While driving just outside of Washington DC this weekend, I googled, “Best Pizza in Silver Spring” and noticed that just about every link took me to “Pacci’s Neapoliton Pizzeria”. Using my handy dandy phone GPS, I quickly pulled up to what would become one of my new favorite pizzerias! Within minutes, technology had led me to a place known to have great pizza and even recommended what to order! If my father even knew how to work these devices, he’d be so proud of this moment.
You can’t help but notice the beautiful wood fired brick oven that stands directly in front of the entrance. This narrow but trendily decorated restaurant is adorned with nice wine racks and smells like a slice of heaven. Two nice patios adorned with palm trees feed off of this main brick and yellow painted dining room.

I Know I Said I’d Never Go Back – But I Did

In my previous writeup about Assaggio Del Forno in Boca Raton I said “Assaggio del Forno I’ve got news for you. I am not coming back“. And I truly meant this statement since the extremely poor attitude of the manager and hostess made it a terrible experience for me, and one which I would never want to endure again. Most people who read this review site regularly know I am not that forgiving of a person. If you manage to turn me off once, I seldom will give you a second try, unless the food warranted it. In the case of Assaggio del Forno, I never got to try the food and my comments were based solely on the fact that I was mistreated by the manager and hostess.
All this changed when one of my dearest friends father asked me to please reconsider and to give it another try, since he loved the place and thought it would be worth the dining experience. Even another friend and reviewer here Herb told me this food was pretty darn good, and that I should give it a second chance. It is hard to say no to someone you hold with such high respect and regard, when they are offering to treat you for lunch just to try a place out that you never tasted and only disliked because of the staff the owners hired.

Grimaldi’s Pizza West Palm Beach, FL

Was meeting my uncle and aunt the other night in downtown West Palm Beach, and originally we were going to go to Hot Pie Pizza, but I remembered I hadn’t yet been to Grimaldi’s Pizza which recently opened up at the end of Clematis Street. Grimaldi’s Pizza is located in the same spot that Fire Rock Pizza was, and didn’t last too long. Recently Grimaldi’s Pizza has been on a mad craze to open several locations around the country. When I go back home to Long Island, there are Grimaldi’s Pizza now too. I never loved the original, so I wondered how these offshoots would taste.
Initially I wanted to try the Grimaldi’s Pizza that opened in Palm Beach Gardens, but they shortened my commute and opened one in West Palm Beach. So we went to check it out, and hoped for the best.

Rocco’s Pizza Mt Sinai, Long Island

While visiting my parents the other week, they agreed to just take a long ride out towards eastern Long Island and just stop at some random pizzeria we had never been to. We didn’t get far when we pulled into a King Kullen shopping center in Mt. Sinai or Mount Sinai (not sure how they really spell it) which had Rocco’s Pizza in it. Since it looked clean enough and smelled decently when we opened the doors, we decided to give Rocco’s Pizza a try. Rocco’s Pizza in Mt. Sinai has been opened approximately six months, and seems to be gaining traction in this part of Long Island.
I ordered a regular and Sicilian slice from the kid behind the counter and some garlic knots. My mother found us a seat, and we waited a few minutes for the slices to get heated up. The kid who handed us the slices looked just like the other who took our order initially, but had a different haircut. After confusion subsided, and the other one came out from the back I realized that they were identical twins. And in their young twenties, the brothers owned this pizzeria together, with a little seed funding from their supportive parents.

Esposito’s Coal Fire Pizza Lake Worth Best Pizza

Recently I was contacted by the owner of a new establishment in Lake Worth, Florida about a coal oven pizza place they opened. As many of you might know, I am a big fan of the owners of Grande Pizza in Boca Raton and Esposito’s Pizza in Davie. Their Detroit Style Pizza is fantastic. So when I heard that they ventured into the coal oven game, I knew it would be well worth the visit, and my oh my am I glad I went.
Located on the South East corner of Lantana Road and Jog road is this new delight of a pizza place called Esposito’s Coal Fire Pizza. This is the type of pizza you will drive miles to taste, and the next day you could very well crave it again. If dining indoors isn’t your thing, they have about 75 seats outside on a covered patio as well, which will be fantastic for the winter months.

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza Gets Huge $25M Boost for Expansion

One of the places here in Florida that people love going to for great pies in a fine dining atmosphere is Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. Personally I have truly never understood the allure since there are dozens of other places that in my opinion cook a better pie. Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza has several Florida locations, including Coral Springs, Delray Beach, and others. What most Floridians don’t know is that they also have franchises in New York, Jersey, Pennsylvania, and more.
So what does a successful multi-location operation like Anthony’s do to keep going? Why they get a $25 million dollar cash infusion from some huge and well known investors like GE Capital and Quilvest Group Investment to keep expanding. That’s what.

Slice of Olde Towne Pizza Gaithersburg, MD

The problem with free opinion sites like Google Reviews is that friends of the owner can anonymously give glowing reviews when the food is horrible. Many times you will encounter the same type of reviews on sites like Yelp and UrbanSpoon. Such is the case for the “Slice of Olde Towne” in Gaithersburg. With reviews like “Best pizza of the town” out there around the web, I naturally made the assumption that it would be tasty even if its customers didn’t quite have a grasp of grammar. One supposed customer even claimed that it was the best pizza in Montgomery County. Clearly this guy gets his slices of pizza @ 7-11 and has never heard of “Pizza CS”, “Mia’s”, or 98.3% of the other pizzerias in the county. Please do not judge our county by this pizza place.

Lutina’s Pizza West Palm Beach

Was at an event the other night in West Palm Beach and when it ended some of the attendees suggested we go to Rooney’s on Okeechobee. We agreed to go and hang out for a little while but I noticed as I pulled up into this shopping plaza that they had a pizza place located named Lutina’s Pizza that I had never heard of, and decided that I must give it a try since I might not ever make a special trip up these ways to try it again.
Lutina’s Pizza was far from fancy inside, and it was a walk up counter place with quite an extensive menu. They even had Filipino food on the menu, which led me to believe this was not Italian owned. Not that it mattered, since some of the best pizza I have had was made by Turkish people in Sweden. I ordered a slice and began to wait for it to come out of the oven.

Pizza Paradiso Alexandria, VA

In late 1991 my brick oven pizza obsession truly began. Growing up in a household that ordered crappy “Pizza Movers” deliveries at least 3 nights a week I didn’t yet know what GOOD pizza was. In December of 1991, I tried a new brick oven pizzeria in Dupont Circle called Pizza Paradiso and that all changed! This magical pizza had a crust unlike any I’d seen before. Even when the school cafeteria lunch ladies burned our little square pizzas the char was nothing like this heavenly flavor. It was that moment that I set out on a quest to find out what truly great pizza was.
Flash forward 20 years and Pizza Paradiso’s has moved to a much larger Dupont Circle space while 2 new locations have opened up in Georgetown and Old Town, Alexandria. I’m proud to report that the crusts are still amazing in their trendy new 140 seat Georgetown pizzeria. Their wood burning dome still kicks out one of the top 5 pies in DC on a daily basis.
