Albert’s Upside Down Pizza Ronkonkoma Long Island

While visiting my parents a couple of weeks ago, they gave me the chance to pick anywhere I wanted to go eat.  Having not been to Albert’s Pizza in Ronkonkoma, for a while, I thought it would be a good selection.  They naturally agreed, and we began our trek out there.

During a previous journey to Albert’s I had given them a perfect 8 out of 8 slice rating.  Was wondering if they could possibly be as good as they tasted that day.

Vincent’s Clam Bar Pizza Carle Place

Although I have eaten at Vincent’s dozens of times, I never had the pizza there before.

By the way, my name is Jake, and I am the nephew to the Pizza Expert, and as he told me, I am the youngest person to ever review here.  I am only 10 years old, but i know pizza.  My uncle takes me to eat it all the time with him when he visits me.

Uncle Joe’s Pizza Lake Grove Long Island

Unclejoes.jpgUncle Joes Pizza is just down the block from La Grova.  I thought La Grova would be my favorite of the day, but Uncle Joe’s held its own.  Upon talking to the owner of Uncle Joe’s, it quickly became apparent, this guy and I have similar views on pizza.

Uncle Joe’s opened up 25 years ago, and as the owner states: “it was back when people didn’t put toppings on their slices of pizza. When you wanted a slice, you just said give me a slice.”  Prior to opening in Lake Grove they were in Astoria then Lynbrook, Rosedale, and Albertson.

La Grova Pizza and Ristorante Lake Grove Long Island

lagrova.jpgAnother place I have never recognized on Middle Country Road is La Grova Ristorante, and with good cause.  Their shopping center backs to the road, which means the storefronts are in the back?  Wonder what Einstein thought this layout up.  Top tier city planners and architects I am sure.

Don’t judge this place by its backdoor from the road or from their website which was probably put up the day the internet became popular, and never updated since.  The pizza is pretty good here.

The crust was awesomely crisp but lacked some of that tasty flavoring I look for. My advice would be to add a bit more sugar to your mix.  That combined with a nice smooth sweet tasting sauce, made for a great lunch. The management could probably improve the overall quality of the cheese they are buying, since it kind of tasted bland.  After a coating of Parmesan cheese, it tasted much better.
La Grova has been in the same location for 31 years, and after having a conversation with the nice owner, I could see why their customers keep coming back

La Grova Pizza in Lake Grove gets 5 out of 8 slices.  It is a place I will continue to visit on my travels there.

Mama Lombardi’s Pizza Islip Macarthur Airport

Well sadly the day arrived where I must bid farewell to two of the things I love most in my life in new York.  My family who would rather freeze then move to florida and New York Pizza!  Since my family reads my reviews I am kind of obligated to say that I of course love my family more than the pizza.
We prefer to fly out of Long Island Macarthur Airport since it is much easier to navigate through compared to LaGuardia and JFK. Plus Southwest flies there and they are usually much better then Crappy airlines like Spirit Airlines. Worstpizza certainly does not recommend Spirit Air. Actually maybe I should start worstairlines.com to discuss my awful experiences with them. It becomes quite evident after flying with Spirit why they offer $9 fares. I would rather spend more and fly Southwest. This has nothing to do with pizza so I will stop there.
Macarthur airport even has a full service pizza place there called Mama Lombardi’s!! Yes no terrible sbarro’s at this airport. They have true pizza that tastes like actual pizza. I ordered a regular slice to eat, but you can find an amazing variety of different kinds of pizza here, with numerous toppings to choose from.
My slice tasted better than any airport pizza I ever ate. Sure it was $3.39 a slice, but given the fact that they could charge over $4 like some of their shitty competitors would, it seemed like a decent price to charge for the quality of pie they are producing, at the rent they are paying.
The slice was thrown into the pizza oven and soon after I paid, it came out.  If it weren’t for the airplanes outside, I would have no idea I was eating airport pizza.  The crust was crisp and tasty.  The cheese was of a top quality, and the sauce was sweet and applied pretty evenly.  I would have even gotten a second slice, if they hadn’t started boarding our plane!
Mama Lombardi’s Pizza gets 5 out of 8 slices.

Little Nicky’s Pizza Centereach Long Island

littlenickys.jpgWhat a way to end the day!  With bad pizza.  We passed by Little Nicky’s Pizza in Centereach, Long Island during my trip, and I asked if we could stop there since I never noticed it before.  What a mistake this was!

In my opinion the sauce was terrible, with an overbearing amount of spice, and was plenty acidic! The crust was doughy and undercooked. Crust wasn’t even crisp.  The staff came off as outright rude as far as I am concerned.  Since we are going to try and not discuss the places that fail to get under 4 slices during this new year, I will stop there.

Go there and try it for yourself and leave me a comment if you had a different experience. I am not going back here again.

Little Nicky’s Pizza gets 1 out of 8 slices.

Conca D’ Oro Pizza Sag Harbor

concadoro.jpgEven though Sag Harbor is not that big of a town, the walk seemed to take forever.  When did Long Island become as hot as Florida during the summer?  I guess Al Gore was right about that global warming thingamajig.  Anyways, as you can tell, this review is quite a bit delayed, since I ate there a few months ago and forgot to publish this review back then.

There seems to be two pizza places in the quaint town of Sag Harbor.  Conca D’ Oro was the first one we passed, so I walked right in to grab a slice.  Conca D’ Oro is nothing fancy inside, which I was a little surprised with, since Sag Harbor is known to have celebrities flock to the town during the season. Usually places would try to impress them with fine decor and clean tables.

My slice at Conca D’ Oro was pretty decent.  I found the crust to be excessively bland, and the chunky tomatoes by the edge of the crust didn’t help my experience either. Thankfully, they seemed to only apply the chunks to the edges, and not throughout the entire slice.  They are definitely using some nice tasting cheese on the pie here though.  When it comes to a place that really only has business for 3 months a year, and has managed to remain open for several years, it is hard to knock them.

If you want a slice while you are visiting there, you might want to stop in and have one here.  Not like you have too many other choices though.  My advice to Conca D’ Oro would be to smooth out their sauce and apply it evenly when making the pizza.  You will have plenty of time dring the winter to practice this.

Cona D’ Oro gets 4 out of 8 slices.

La Piazza Pizza Plainview NY

lapiazza.jpglapiazza.jpgUpon landing at JFK airport last month, I was picked up by a friend of a friend.  I asked this friend of a friend named Joe if he wouldn’t mind stopping to get some pizza with me, since I was starving.  Joe had no problem with it and asked me which place I wanted to eat.  Since I am not too familiar with the JFK surroundings I asked him for a choice.  He told me there was some phenomenal pizza at a place by their office in Plainview, Long Island that I should try called La Piazza.
