Jerry’s Pizza Boca Raton Sicilian Slice

Before you read this review, I am well aware that Jerry’s Pizza in Boca Raton is a pretty unattractive looking establishment. If ever a pizzeria in Boca Raton could benefit from a facelift, Jerry’s is the poster child. In my opinion, I am shocked that some reality show hasn’t heard about this place and offered to help. Upon walking in, one might think they haven’t updated anything since they opened all those years ago.
Now, with that being said, I am a pizza daredevil and decided to go and check Jerry’s out since it had been a couple of years since my last review there. Honestly, I thought Jerry’s would have been out of business by now. There are so many other pizza options in Boca Raton, who take pride in their appearance, and offer decent pricing, it seems logical patrons would probably chose those over Jerry’s Pizza. Apparently they did this day since I was the only person eating there during lunch time.

IL Bellagio Italian Restaurant Pizza West Palm Beach, FL

Many times we’ve eaten at Il Bellagio Restaurant in City Place, and many times we have enjoyed our Italian dishes. Being that we usually go to this restaurant and sit a wonderful view of the fountains with other couples, I usually got pasta and skipped the pizza I have noticed on the menu. Things were about to change today.
Went for lunch with a close friend of mine and since we were in a bit of the rush (since we were going to the art show at the Palm Beach Convention Center) I ordered the pizza thinking it would come out quickly. Boy was I surprised with how wrong I would be.

		Pizza Time Boca Raton Sicilian

Went back to have another try of Pizza Time since I have been trying to find a Sicilian Slice I would deem worthy enough to go back and try. We have previously reviewed Pizza Time in Boca Raton here twice and both times enjoyed the taste of their regular and Sicilian slices. But since it has been about 3+ years since the last review, it was certainly necessary to try it again.
WIthout getting too much into the history of Pizza Time in Boca Raton, it is the original owner of the one in Coral Springs (Bobby) back when it used to be great. He sold the location, took some time off, and opened in Boca Raton, in a location that really isn’t in the middle of anything.

Circle In The Square Pizza Asheville, NC

Like many other other people on the east coast who love the mountains, I have a 2nd home in Asheville, North Carolina. We don’t get up there that often, but when we do I always make it a point to go to my favorite pizza spot. Circle In The Square Pizza has 2 downtown locations. You might be asking yourself, “What do North Carolinaians know about a genuine New York style slice?” Well Pete & Rich from the Bronx know….and after trying their pizza, they know quite well.
The reheated gigantic slice at $2.99 has the perfect ‘crunch” that I look for in a great slice. Yes I know, $2.99 for a slice of pizza in Asheville, NC seems expensive, but this slice is ENORMOUS. I do not think there is a chance many patrons could finish their two slice special. The next bite has the amazing combination of a high end mozzarella cheese which is sweet, but not too sweat. It was just right, at least in my opinion

FAU Living Room Theatre Pizza Boca Raton

Did you know they have a movie theatre at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton? I sure didn’t. The other day I was in a new building there and saw all these marquee style signs with movies currently playing, and others to come. Although I never heard of most, they looked pretty interesting and indie style. So I went inside to take a look and even found they have a cafe that serves food and drink. When I saw they had a pizza on the menu, I just had to sit down and try it.
The Living Room cafe had a nice menu, with a bunch of choices that you wouldn’t expect to find in a movie theatre, let alone on a college campus. Besides the usual popcorn, candy, sodas, they had salad, sandwiches and actual dinner plates. You can download the menu here. The pizza was only $6.50 so it seemed it was worth checking out.

Buongiorno Pizza Palm Beach Gardens, FL

After a client meeting up in Palm Beach Gardens, we tried to find a little hole in the wall pizzeria that the client said was pretty good. Since the client loved the same places in Long Island that I liked, I was quite anxious to get over there to try it. He wasn’t sure of the name, but he gave the location of being west of 95 on Northlake Blvd. The first place we noticed was Buongiorno Pizza & Pasta on the North side of the road so we pulled in.
Once we pulled into the lot, we didn’t get the vibe that Buongiorno was the same Pizza place that our client was describing. This place was more of a restaurant and required a waiter to serve us the pizza we were about to order. I hate that. Seriously, I really do hate this.

Red Zone Pizza Near The Beach, Boca Raton

During my previous visit to Red Zone Pizza in Boca Raton, located near A1A and Palmetto Park Road, I had the Sicilian and liked it. Although they just use two pieces of regular dough to make it (like so many other places down here) it tasted pretty darn good. I knew I would have to make the return trip there to try out their regular slice since it looked really good behind the glass display case.
The other day I found myself around that area and decided it was time to go and check out the regular slice. I had forgotten just how expensive the slice was here, and at $3.00 I hoped it was as good as it looked. I ordered two slices and sat down.

Pummarola Pizza Town Center Mall Boca Raton, FL

The Town Center Mall in Boca Raton recently decided not to renew a lot of the leases of the restaurants that had been paying rent for years and years. Instead, they decided they need a more upscale feel and started to kickout not renew the leases of the places they deemed to not be up to Boca Raton fancy standards. So Subway got replaced with the classy Earl of Sandwich. Flamers is getting replaced with some Butcher Block burger place. Seems like Villa Pizza is next to go, since they opened up a new upscale Neapolitan style pizza place called Pummarola directly next to them. Yes, when I say directly, I mean directly.
Initially I walked by Pummarola Pizza not wanting to like it, since I couldn’t believe the owner of this establishment would open right next door to a place that had been there for so many years. At least wait until they were pushed out. After seeing that Pummarola made their pies fresh right in front of you, and that they were small individual pies baked in wood fired oven, in the mall food court, I decided that maybe I should give it a shot.

		Buddy’s Pizza Detroit, MI

Buddy’s Pizza in Detroit has been ranked as one of the top pizza places in the country, even Worstpizza included it once in its top ten. During my last visit to Detroit I decided to check out a different Buddy’s Pizza location and see if it still ranked high up there.
Buddy’s Pizza serves what is known as Detroit Style Pizza. You can learn exactly what that means here. But in case you are too lazy to click through I will summarize it by saying it is in between a regular slice and a Sicilian slice. The crust of a Detroit-style pizza is different because in addition to sometimes being baked two times, it is usually cooked in a well-oiled pan to a chewy medium-well-done state that gives the bottom and edges of the crust a crunchy texture.

El Tamarindo Coal Fired Pizza Hallandale Beach, FL

Recently, while attending the Boca Raton Wine and Food Festival, I had the pleasure of tasting some of the samplings that El Tamarindo Coal Fired Pizza was offering. The food tasted delicious, but the manager Mike’s attitude made the food taste even better. After speaking to him for a while, it became obvious that he puts his heart and soul into the food they create. I couldn’t help but notice him in a dance competition later on in the night, this is a guy who knows how to market, and knows how to make people want to come try his restaurant.
El Tamarindo has a few locations now in South Florida. There is one in Deerfield Beach now as well. They took over the spot that used to be Ruby’s Pizza on 10th street. My wife and I happened to be in Hallandale Beach and we decided to try El Tamarindo Coal Fired Pizza. I want to thank my friend Staci G for trying to get me to eat at El Tamarindo for years. She always said it was one of her favorites, and I was hopeful it would become one of mine too.
