Oasis by the Sea Pizza Hollywood Boardwalk

oasis_by_the_sea_hollywood.jpg

While enjoying a visit from my parents for the first time in many years, we ended up on the Hollywood Boardwalk in Hollywood, FL. For those that aren’t familiar with where Hollywood is, it is just south of Fort Lauderdale. This area is inundated with French Canadian male snowbirds who love to wear tight bathing suits and show off their bellies. If you think I am being mean, just go down there yourself and you will immediately find I am being kind in that description.

After walking up and down for a while on a beautiful day, I got hungry and of course asked if they wanted some pizza. Never the type of parents to disappoint, they happily agreed and we started looking for the right pizza place on the Hollywood Boardwalk. As we passed by one place in particular called Oasis by the Sea, we were hard pressed by a rather large lady who told us it is the best pizza on the boardwalk and one of the only places that doesn’t freeze their dough. I asked if she would guarantee me it was the best and she said it easily was the best. Never one to not accept a pizza challenge, we headed into Oasis by the Sea.

ITALY Pizza in City Place, West Palm Beach

italy_pizza_city_place.jpg

While walking around City Place we noticed that the gelato place near the fountains had a menu. Maybe during previous visits to this West Palm Beach shopping center I missed that they served pizza here, but I have a hunch it was only recently added to the menu. The name of the place was now ITALY Fast Quality Food.

We walked inside ITALY in City Place and were seated at a table that was rather tightly squeezed in, and with our luck there was a crying baby next to it. We literally could touch elbows with the couple next to us on both sides.

Giovanni Italian Restaurant & Pizza Pompano Beach, FL

Giovanni_pizza_pompano_beach.jpg

After doing some shopping at Brandsmart USA, my wife mentioned to me that we should go try the Pizza Rodizio place we passed several times on Federal Highway in Pompano Beach, FL. Since my wife usually dislikes eating pizza with me, as that is what I eat quite often, I seized the opportunity to go eat some pizza with her.

We headed south on Federal Highway from SW 10th Street in Deerfield Beach looking for the Pizza Rodizio place which was located on the west side of the road. When we got down to the area I noticed there was no more Pizza Rodizio and instead was a new place called Giovanni Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria. Initially we were going to pull away but we noticed a $4.99 2 slice lunch special and decided to give it a try.

Armando’s Pizza Chef Fort Lee, NJ

armando's_pizza_fort_lee.jpg

My son was wrestling at a tournament in Fort Lee, NJ and I got extremely bored waiting for him in between matches. Since it wasn’t terribly cold out, I decided to take a walk around the area and see if I could find any food that wasn’t Korean. To my surprise I found Armando’s Pizzeria on 16th Street.

Armando’s was located amongst a small strip of stores with Korean signs by the athletic center, and I wasn’t really sure how it worked when I walked in. There was no pizza counter, and no hostess, so I waited a bit to see if anyone came out or noticed me there.

Joey’s Pizza Wynwood, Miami

joeys_pizza_wynwood.jpg

About a couple of years ago I ventured into the Wynwood section of Miami to try out a pizza that some described as legendary for Miami. After driving around trying to find Joey’s Pizza, I felt extremely unsafe and kept on driving. Wynwood at that time was definitely not a place you wanted to wander around at night.

Fast forward several years and WOW! Wynwood is like the new trendy, happening place. We went down to a tech event at a place called The Lab and afterwards went for a walk in this artsy district. Although I am super impressed with the turnaround, I cannot say I would feel totally safe walking alone in the middle of the night there yet. Since we wandered by Joey’s Pizza when heading to the Wood Tavern, it was mandatory for me to stop and check out the pizza finally.

Meatball Room Boca Raton, FL

Meatball_room_boca_raton.jpg

Since every place before it seemed to fail in the Regency Plaza in Boca Raton, a new group of owners decided to drop a ton of money and redo a restaurant that didn’t really need redoing and open a new Italian Restaurant called the Meatball Room. I had seen the coming soon sign for a while, but wasn’t sure they were opened until I saw my friend Jeff from Jeffeats.com posted about the restaurant and said I would love it. Since I trust his opinion, I decided to go try it out on opening night.

The Meatball Room was PACKED on opening night. Thankfully I made reservations before just heading over, or there probably wouldn’t be a spot for me until they closed. As I approached the hostess stand to give my name, I heard the regular Boca Raton snob remarks like “I live in Woodfield and you HAVE to seat me”, as well as “You won’t stay in business long if you don’t seat the locals first”. Such a nice sense of entitlement around this area.

The Roadhouse Brick Oven Pizza in Riverhead, NY

Roadhouse_brick_oven_pizza_riverhead.jpg

Although we do not go out to Riverhead that often, I had to return something at the outlets with my family. One of my friends parents overhead me the previous day saying that I was heading out to Riverhead and said I should try The Original Roadhouse Brick Oven Pizza located on West Main Street. We happened to pass by this absolutely adorable pizzeria, and pulled in to check out if the pizza was any good.

The Original Roadhouse Pizza is in a building reminiscent of a place you would get some good German Food.  It had a sort of dollhouse feel to it, and as we pulled into the parking spot we noticed such a cute outdoor seating area to our right. There was even the Peconic River behind that. Needless to say, my first impression was a happy one.

Giorgio’s Pizza Nesconset, NY

giorgio's_pizza_nesconset.jpg

Had the opportunity to try a pizzeria out in Nesconset, NY the other day that my sister seems to enjoy. Initially we were going to go to Albert’s Pizza in Ronkonkoma but I wasn’t feeling too hot and just wanted to go back towards my families house. We pulled into the lot on this somewhat cold and overcast Long Island day, actually every day seems cold to someone who just arrived on a plane from Florida.

Upon entering Georgio’s Pizza you can view their display of pizzas on the right hand side, while seating is to the left. On the other side of the booths appears to be a restaurant with a full menu for dinner. Nobody in my family has eaten dinner there so I am not sure how it is at night, but I think we will go back there next time to try out some of the pasta dishes.

Spritz Pizza Coral Gables, Miami

spritz_pizza_coral_gables.jpg

We found ourselves down in Coral Gables the other night, well actually we started off at Merrick Park, but slowly made our way up to one of my favorite sections of Miami soon after. We all seemed to want different places to eat and nobody would compromise as to which place we should choose. That is when it hit me! Spris Pizza has a location in Coral Gables and I really haven’t had a bad experience at this specific location.

As we drove up Ponce De Leon and began looking for a parking spot, I noticed there was no place called Spris Pizza anymore and instead was a place that looked similar called Spritz Pizza. It seemed too similar in name to not be related to the old place so we parked and headed on in. I was hopeful the old owner Julio still was in charge of the place.

Andiamo Pizzeria in Ronkonkoma, NY

andiamo_pizzeria.jpg

Just got back from another trip to Long Island and got to try out several new little places I had never been to before. My objective was to drive down some roads after leaving Islip Airport and just stop and try out some random places.

Andiamo Pizzeria was one of the places I discovered during this tour as we headed through Ronkonkoma, NY. Andiamo Pizza was located in a small strip mall in a mainly residential neighborhood on Hawkins Avenue. We went in during this off hour and were the only people inside the pizza place. As you enter the doorway you are first greeted with the garbage pail, then a bunch of seats and eventually you get to the pizza counter.
