Maroni Cuisine Pizza Northport, NY

maroni_italian_restuarant_northport.jpg

Anyone living on the North Shore of Long Island has probably heard of Maroni Cuisine Pizza and their Italian Restaurant in Northport, NY. What makes Maroni’s Pizza so special? Well to start, they are the smallest restaurant in Northport, I mean like ridiculously small. Secondly, the chef challenged Bobby Flay to a meatball throw down and won.

Even though Maroni’s is known for their meatballs, and Italian dishes, my purpose today was to have Maroni’s Pizza. It was a fortuitous day since I was able to go celebrate a communion and eat pizza at the same time with one of my favorite families.

Tilted Kilt Boca Raton Flatbread Pizza

tilted_kilt_boca_raton.jpg

Let me first start off by saying that I in NO way went to the new Tilted Kilt in Boca Raton looking for pizza. I was going to meet a couple of friends from the gym (I have to work out to maintain this physique for my readers) to have a burger and enjoy the ambiance of scantily clad waitresses serving us our food with cute smiles.

When we sat down and starting to browse the menu, I saw Flatbread Pizzas on it, and it had some good real estate on the first inner fold, so I couldn’t resist ordering one, since they must be proud of their pizza, or they would have buried it otherwise somewhere else on the menu. It should also be noted that Tilted Kilt isn’t known for their pizza, and guys usually go in to grab a beer and hang with their friends, and this establishment is perfect for that. All these disclaimers are necessary since I guess you could tell, wasn’t overwhelmed with what I was about to be served.

Blaze Pizza Boca Raton

For those of my readers from the west coast of our great nation, you have had places like Blaze Pizza and 800 Degrees for years and are probably wondering why I am first getting around to review it now. Well, we just got our first ones opened in Florida, and I managed to eat at the Blaze Pizza in Boca Raton prior to writing my review from the one I ate at in Las Vegas. So, it just seemed right to try out the more local Blaze and review it instead. I will get to other Blaze Pizza locations to review soon as well, since I recently just ate at the one in Gainesville, FL.

Stanzione 87 Pizza in Miami

stanzione_87_pizza.jpg

Took a ride down to Miami to try out a pizzeria that many readers have bragged about called Stanzione 87. Not sure what the name meant but after some google searches once I arrived, it appears the name means Stanzione 87. Sorry to make you think that I knew what it meant, but I still don’t. Maybe I will call the owner to find out.

Stanzione 87 wasn’t too busy on the day we went, I believe it was due to the construction, but that didn’t matter. I would have tried it regardless of how popular it was.

Luigi’s Coal Oven Pizza Delray Beach, FL

Luigis_pizza_delray_beach.jpg

Luigi’s Pizza opened up months ago in Delray Beach, Fl on Atlantic Ave. They took the location of many a failed restaurant prior to them renovating this space. We have eaten at their other location in Fort Lauderdale, situated on Las Olas and really didn’t love it too much. You can read that review here.

It is fair to note that this review is written after trying Luigi’s Coal Oven Pizza two times, at their Delray Beach location. I wanted to make sure that my taste buds weren’t altered by the $9.95 Mozzarella in Carrozza I had the first visit, which was nothing more than a deep fried burnt grilled cheese sandwich. Amazing how two slices of bread and two pieces of cheese, could POSSIBLY cost this much.

Blocks Pizza Deli Miami Beach, South Beach

A loyal reader recently typed an email to me suggesting I try one of his favorite places to grab pizza in South Beach. The place he mentioned was Blocks Pizza which is located on Washington Ave. I had the opportunity to be down in that area and decided to walk from my hotel over to Blocks and see if it was any good.

Blocks was nothing fancy inside but it had an open and clean feel to it. Not many tables, but an easy to see pizza counter with a door open to the of the kitchen so you can see what sort of goes on there. The different oils they had on the counter intrigued me but I didn’t want to ruin the first tasting by adding anything additional.

Community Table Boca Raton Pizza

community_table_grand_opening.jpg

Boca Raton seems to be revered around the country as this beautiful paradise, with palm trees lining streets, and beautifully manicured lawns outside gorgeous homes and businesses. Most people would agree unless they have traveled on NW 2nd ave, also known as Boca Raton Blvd., between Glades Road and 20th Street. For some reason this block is full of decrepit plazas and buildings that never seem to get nicer. It is like the buildings were bought 50 years ago and just left in the state they were. G-d Forbid one of the landlords would get wise and redo the plazas so they could obtain more rent and beautify the street. (Pictured above at the grand opening and ribbon cutting are FAU Student Body President Michael Cepeda , Mayor Susan Haynie, Andrew Stellino (Owner), and Boca Raton Councilman Robert Weinroth.

Well one amazing thing happened on this street recently and it was the opening of a new casual eatery called Community Table. Although known for their $1 pizza slices and $8 pies, Community Table serves quite a bit more than that. They have tacos, hot dogs, paninis, salads and fresh homemade pasta. We couldn’t wait to go in and try out everything they had to offer.  (more…)

Cork & Pig Tavern Pizza Odessa, TX

I travel around North America for a different job, and find myself in some really great and not so great locations.  Emailed to me one day was my next work trip to Odessa, TX. It was a spot on the Texas map until 3 years ago when Texas decided to start drilling for more oil in West Texas.  People out here with property have become instant millionaires within 6 months to a year.  Enough of that, but what it did bring was a demand for more restaurants.

One restaurant in-particular is the Cork & Pig Tavern.  It is a new establishment like most other building growing on the east side of Odessa, but with a really good exception … pizza.  Today I had the Gladiator pizza.  The Gladiator has Italian sausage, diced red bell peppers, oregano, mozzarella and tomato sauce.

Giuseppe’s Pizza Fellsmere, FL

Giuseppes_pizza_fellsmere.jpg

I have some family that lives up in Indian River County. For a long time, he kept telling me about the delicious garlic knots located at a place called Giuseppe’s Pizza in Fellsmere, Florida. We passed by a few times but they weren’t open on the days we went. For those of you who are wondering where Fellsmere, FL even is, it is just to the west of 95, North of Vero Beach, and West of Sebastian. There really isn’t much going on in this town, in my opinion, so it is likely you never will have to visit there.

Giuseppe’s Pizza was open the other day as we passed it, and we went inside to get a few pies to feed the family and I had high hopes since I was told by others in Sebastian that this is some of the best pizza in the area.  After ordering the pies, we snacked on an appetizer of Garlic Bread with cheese, which wasn’t that good in my opinion, so I started to lose faith in the place.
