Cheescake Factory Boca Raton, FL Pizette
Since there didn’t appear to be a wait at the Cheesecake Factory the other day (for a change), my wife convinced me to go and eat there. While perusing the menu, I noticed they had something I had never noticed before….Pizette’s. Obviously, I ordered one and figured I would check out if it was worthy.
Although I haven’t reviewed the Cheesecake Factory pizza for a while, from what I recall it wasn’t half bad. It tended to be a little undercooked and runny, but the taste showed they used high quality ingredients. The Pizette was $4.95 so I wasn’t sure how small it would be when it arrived, since $4.95 seems like a low price for food at the Cheesecake Factory.

TIC TAC DOUGH Pizza Swap Shop Sunrise, FL
Ok, I’m not a professional pizza reviewer. That goes without saying. However, I do consider myself to be a “quality pizza consumption specialist.” Pizza is one of my four food groups. French fries, cereal and fruit are the others, in case you were curious. I brought my two of my sons (6 & 7) along with my mom (65) to the Swap Shop for lunch and socks.
I opted for a plain cheese slice while they all went for food elsewhere (lucky them). The slice had two big bubbles in it. Fail. Aside from the bubbles, it was undercooked and soggy. I didn’t have high expectations because I was, in fact, at the Swap Shop. However, this pizza place has been there forever. It’s not rocket science to make a pizza without bubbles and cook it long enough to make sure its cooked in the middle but not burnt on the edges.

Pizza Rustica South Miami, Florida
I tried to clear my virtual cache, cookies and erase my browsing history before I walked in the door as this had been a KFC for so many years.
As I drove there, I eyed three other pizza places that were either packed or looked full. This place was nearly empty and it took a little bit too long to order as there were only 5 other customers total and two were already seated. The server wore one of those Janet Jackson headsets as there is the old KFC drive through service, but didn’t really need it as only one car drove through while I was there. A cheese slice is any pizza places’ litmus test so that’s what I went with- the Margherita. The menu calls it a “huge slice,” but this reviewer has to disagree. Fortunately I like my slices a bit on the crispy side, but this was a bit over-crisp (as in may have been sitting around too long). I almost brought it back and asked for a fresh one.

Nostrana Pizza Portland, OR
Some local friends invited us to Nostrana, the locavore-oriented Italian place on SE Morrison. It’s always been a hang-out of theirs since the early days of couple-dom (2nd anniversary coming up Jan 1, if you want to send gifts), and I quickly saw why it’s special to them.
With a menu that changes nearly nightly, Nostrana is one of those places which has taken local ingredients to ethnic dish variations, with a vengence, resulting in a wide variety of interesting offerings.

Cara Amico Pizza Portland, OR

Rang up (ok, logged on) to Delivered Dish tonight for a change of pace. We use them quite often. Never really had a bad experience with them. They’ve always showed up on time, and the delivery people are pretty courteous. Delivery fees are apparently set by the individual restaurants and can range for a couple dollars to ten. There is usually a minimum $ amount food order as well. Tonight’s occasion was that Mrs. BurgerDogBoy is out making the bacon, as she has been known to do, so that means it’s burger or pizza night (or both) for me!
I’ve never been into Cara Amico, even tho it’s older than dirt, as far as Portland restaurants go (1949). That’s even older than BurgerDogBoy!

Rafi’s Pizza Boca Raton
A new pizza place named Rafi’s Pizza opened up in Boca Raton where Razzo’s was, and before that it was something else, and before that something else, and eventually the string leads to Joe’s NY Pizza which I think started the pizza craze in this location. So far none have succeeded, so another smart business pizza person decided to give it a shot. Some people just don’t do their research.

Cabana Bar & Grille Pizza Ocean Club Resorts – Turks & Caicos Islands
What kind of person goes to The Turks & Caicos Islands and orders pizza? A true pizza expert, that’s who.
So I’m at an ocean-front grill on Provinciales ordering a pizza with the claim that: “Jeff is the first person to serve pizza on Provo. Jeff’s formula for a great pie lives on.” Don’t know who Jeff is—I suppose the pizza creator.

Eat Pizza Goose Hollow Portland, OR
Had a coupon for a free personal-sized pizza; the proprietor gives these out as business cards, cheap publicity. Only other guy I ever saw that did that was Ron Zapp, the late owner of Zapp’s & Dirty’s Potato Chip brands out of Louisiana. His business card was a coupon for a free bag of chips. I had lots of Ron’s business cards!
So I am walking past Eat Pizza today, and naturally I don’t have the coupon with me. Sure, I had it last Thursday for some reason, but not today. (sigh).

A Slice of New York Pizza – Portland, OR
Man, I hate it when there is something new and I’ve missed it. Especially if it is “8 months new!” Apparently, when I wasn’t looking, a new pizzeria opened inside one of my neighborhood grocery stores, the Thriftway in SW Portland.
Called “A Slice of New York,” that’s exactly what they offer, whole pies, slices, NY style subs, calzones and the like.
I had wandered in to Thriftway to get some bagels for Sunday morning, not one of my usual stops, but Noah’s had exactly 3,255,123 people in line. (Ok, Noah’s is not one of my usual stops, either).

Brewzzi’s Boca Raton Pizza
Excuse the picture for being on its side but it was the best way to show how thick this crust was. Went to Brewzzi’s the other day to meet some friends for lunch. Matt’s Pizza decided to come as well as Martin. Initially I was going to do the pasta dish there but after some peer pressure from Matt, I ultimately decided to get the pizza, since he remembered that one of the higher ups in the organization invited me in to taste it many months ago.
The Brewzzi decision makers even inquired about having a #pizzatweetup at the Boca Raton Brewzzi’s location, but never followed through when I explained to them that we require all pizza to be supplied for free to the attendees.
