Giotto Pizza Miami Beach, FL

After meeting with some potential clients the other day we decided to take a walk around the block to try out Giotto Maestro della Pizza on West Avenue. My new friends at the office we were in said it was some of the best pizza around, so I couldn’t wait to try it out. The other day when we were in this section of Miami Beach, we walked by it but didn’t eat there. I wanted to badly, but my host wanted to go to Oliver’s a few doors down. Now was my chance!

Giotto Pizza or Giotto Maestro della Pizza (that isn’t the best name for google search since most will just search Giotto) has a few tables outside and about a dozen inside. It isn’t the biggest of places but it was cozy enough to pass by as quaint. We were greeted by a couple of Italian guys behind the counter and began to look at the menu.

Napoli Pizza Boynton Beach, FL

Across from Santaluces High School  is a new pizza place that replaced Dom and Louie’s named Napoli Pizza. Since my son was wrestling at a tournament across the street, I took a walk and decided to try some of the pizza here. Dom and Louie’s actually wasn’t a bad slice so I was sad to hear they couldn’t make it in this location. It had all the makings of a winning place. Booths when you walked in, a counter where you ordered from, and you could actually dine here without the nuisance or slowdown of a server.

Immediately upon entering Napoli Pizza it became evident that the layout had changed. Although they still had some booths against the west wall, there were now tables with chairs in the center and a big long un-needed bar along the east wall. Guess what? Yup…. now there was a server who asked me to sit down in order to get my 1, yes 1 slice of pizza. ARRRRRGH

Nicky G’s Pizza St. James NY

About a month or so ago I was at a street fair in St. James, Long Island. I had heard about a pizza place nearby called Nicky G’s, but never had the opportunity to try it. Nicky G’s is somewhat unique when it comes to pizza since their crust is made out of garlic knots. Yup, you heard me right. Their hopefully tasty pizza comes equipped with garlic knots built in. (not garlic rolls Suzanne).

Although Nicky G’s Pizza in St. James was jamming, because of all the attendees at the street fair, I didn’t let that stop me from grabbing a slice. Although the staff was extremely busy, I gotta say….they made me feel like I was the only one there when it came time to pay. The lady behind the cash register didn’t let the stress get to her at all, and she could be a stellar example for those pizza employees who get all flustered when you ask them a question while they ring you up.

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza Plantation, FL

A client of mine took me to lunch at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Plantation the other day since I naturally insisted on pizza when the topic of food came up. I am touch and go when it comes to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza since I feel that every place they open a new location, it just further dilutes the original experience I had eating at the first one that opened in Fort Lauderdale.

But since it was the only pizza my client could think of nearby that he liked, I was more than happy to go and try out another one of their locations. I think I have tried each and every one in South Florida by now, and even one in Long Island, so when it comes to taste, I know what I am looking for with them.

Papa John’s Pizza Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton, FL

After all these years I finally went for a walk through Florida Atlantic University FAU with my son to show him  around a bit. I never realized how big the campus was, nor did I know they had a food court on premise. Once we reached the food court, my son, like usual, decided he was hungry. We wandered around a little bit to see what there was to eat and ultimately decided upon Papa John’s Pizza, just to grab something quick.

Can’t exactly say the foreigner behind the counter was friendly, actually I found him a bit arrogant. We ordered two slices and a soda (they had a special) and thought we would have to wait a bit. This wasn’t the case, the pizza was served to us luke warm.

Sal’s Pizzeria Ronkonkoma, NY

On my way back from a pizza excursion in Long Island, we stopped at Sal’s Pizzeria on the way to Islip Airport. Sal’s Pizza was never a place I really wanted to try before, since I never really loved the look of the shopping center. Seems like a little strip mall plaza that you would buy paneling and plumbing supplies in, and then in the corner is this pizzeria.I believe this is actually Ronkonkoma and not Islip but that is something I will have to look up before I complete the review.  *** Yup it is Ronkonkoma *****

Since we were in a rush to get me back to the airport to get to beautiful sunny Florida, we decided it was our best bet on this dreary overcast and drizzling day.

Josie’s Ristorante Pizza Boynton Beach, FL

Met my wife for some lunch the other day in Boynton Beach, FL and after finally deciding on Wendy’s, we quickly left since it appeared the air conditioning was broke. In the same plaza was another eatery named Josie’s Italian Restaurant so we decided to go try it out. Both of us weren’t sure if we had sampled the food here prior, but I have a feeling we did many many years ago.

Josie’s Restaurant in Boynton Beach wasn’t anything fancy inside. It seems like the place you would find in old Florida, but it appeared cleaner. Even though they had a buffet going on during lunch time, for some reason this place only had one other couple eating there. Hope this wasn’t a bad sign of things to come.

Porto Fino Pizza Huntington, NY

Was psyched to see an old high school friend while I was back in Long Island visiting my parents. He suggested we meet in Huntington Village and grab some food. As we walked down the block we noticed Porto Fino Restaurant and Pizzeria and figured we would give it a try.

When we were seated I was told by the server that I couldn’t order slices in this section. He mentioned I could only order pies. Since it was their policy I wasn’t going to argue, but it seemed silly that slices couldn’t make it to this part of the dining room. After asking him nicely, he agreed to let me get a slice of Sicilian to try if I ordered something else as well. Good job upselling, but I had to try the pizza out.

Manhattan Joe’s Pizza Boca Raton

Finally a new pizza place opens up in Boca Raton with no servers. A place that actually trusts me enough to carry my slice from the counter to the chairs located 2 feet from the counter….what an amazing concept. The new pizzeria is located in the Polo Shops and is named Manhattan Joe’s Pizza, at least I think that is what it is. It could be Joe’s Manhattan Pizza but I am betting on Manhattan Joe’s.

Manhattan Joe’s cleaned up the interior of what I think used to be a Coffee Shop that didn’t have the name Star in it, so it was doomed to fail. The menu was simply attached to the wall, and they had some paper ones on the counter. Two people worked behind this long counter, one guy was doing something with the cheese, and the young girl at the counter asked me what I wanted.

Canyon Ranch Pizza Tucson Arizona

20121022-214752.jpg

Matt’s pizza and I went to Canyon Ranch Tucson in Arizona for a week of healthy eating and plenty of exercise. We were certainly not expecting to see such indulgent lunch items like hamburgers and pizza on the menu at the Double U cafe by the pool.We tried to stay away as long as we could partaking in the daily relaxation that this trip was supposed to provide us.

Pizza!!! By day 3 we caved in and indulged. Well, if you call 280 calories for a cheese slice indulging. We called it happiness. Actually anyone who visits the Canyon Ranch and has this pizza will most likely agree with me that this pizza was pure happiness after all the exercises.
