Manhattan Joe’s Pizza Boca Raton

Finally a new pizza place opens up in Boca Raton with no servers. A place that actually trusts me enough to carry my slice from the counter to the chairs located 2 feet from the counter….what an amazing concept. The new pizzeria is located in the Polo Shops and is named Manhattan Joe’s Pizza, at least I think that is what it is. It could be Joe’s Manhattan Pizza but I am betting on Manhattan Joe’s.

Manhattan Joe’s cleaned up the interior of what I think used to be a Coffee Shop that didn’t have the name Star in it, so it was doomed to fail. The menu was simply attached to the wall, and they had some paper ones on the counter. Two people worked behind this long counter, one guy was doing something with the cheese, and the young girl at the counter asked me what I wanted.

Damiano Italian Restaurant Boca Raton Pizza

Well it didn’t take long for Assaggio Del Forno to close, maybe a couple months to be somewhat precise. After my first terrible experience there, I was certain they didn’t have what it would take to last in their location. The clientele that lives nearby is way to finicky for even the slightest mistake. I did go back and try the pizza, and thought it was decent, but a place with that high rent and buildout could never survive on pizza alone.

Damiano Italian Restaurant quickly put up coming soon signs as soon as Assaggio Del Forno closed. Either the previous owner sold it, or made some sort of deal with the new owner John Williams who also recently was behind Frank and Dino’s in Deerfield Beach. The weird thing is I also heard Dennis Max who owned Assaggio Del Forno was also an owner of that restaurant. Did Damiano just change its name and pretend like it was a new restaurant? According to the press that circled Frank and Dino’s when it opened, John Williams was a Partner with the Max Group. Are they no longer partners? Anyways let’s get to the pizza.

The Ale House Boca Raton Pizza

Recently I noticed that The Ale House on Yamato Road in Boca Raton was offering a new menu item…PIZZA! Does it get any better than watching football games on dozens of screens and having the ability to order pizza fresh out of the oven while you do so?

When the waitress came by, I couldn’t order this pizza fast enough. The way The Ale House in this Boca Raton location was promoting it on their menu, I knew I should be in for something tasty, full of quality ingredients, and worth coming back for. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case in my opinion.

Ovenella Pizza Boca Raton

Previously Pizza Expert went to Ovenella during its first week opened in Boca Raton and pretty much disliked everything about it except for the scenery. Recently we were invited back and I got to try the pizza at Ovenella in Boca Raton for the first time.

First the scenery, when I first walked in I was delighted to see a modern look to Ovenella. Very clean looking with an inviting feel. There is a bar with plenty of space for grabbing a cocktail after work. I was there for lunch and was given the lunch menu. I went straight to the pizza and noticed for lunch they serve 8 inch pizzas.

Yard House Boca Raton, FL Pizza

When the National Cartoon Museum in Mizner Park closed down, most of Boca Raton didn’t shed a tear. Personally I was sad to see it go, since it still brought people to the city, and it was a nice way to spend the day with your children. The building stayed vacant for a while, and there was talk of many other things opening in this location, but nothing ever seemed to pan out.

Recently a Yard House opened up in part of the building and the place has been buzzing ever since, with no immediate signs of slowing down. I had to go in and try the place when I realized they had pizza on the menu.

Red Zone Pizza Boca Raton, FL

Well it didn’t take long for Alfeo’s Pizza in Boca Raton to sell and move on. While passing by what used to be called Alfeo’s Pizza on Palmetto Park Road, I noticed the sign changed and was no longer called Alfeo’s Pizza. The new name was Red Zone Pizza, so I had to stop by and check it out to see what insight I could gain about what happened to the previous owners. For all I knew, it was still owned by the same couple, and they just changed the name.

Upon heading inside, the place looked cleaner and sure enough all the signs now said Red Zone Pizza. I noticed that one of the owners of Alfeo’s was still there so I asked her how come she changed the name. She said that Red Zone Pizza took the Boca Raton beach location over and they were helping during the transition. I sure hoped this transition didn’t mean higher prices and lower quality. Alfeo’s made a nice Sicilian slice.

OIP Pizza Boca Raton Near FAU

Not to be confused with the other OIP – Original Italian Pizza, which is located out east in Boca Raton, this OIP is located just outside the campus of Florida Atlantic University, in the research park. Prior to being OIP, this location housed Rock City Pizza (or something like that, I never got around to trying it before they closed) and prior to that it was Annie’s Pizza which was pretty good.

I always imagined that this has to be one of the toughest locations in Boca Raton to open a pizza joint. As I previously stated in the Annie’s review a while back, “Nestled between the Boca Raton airport and a bunch of research companies is this surprisingly busy pizza shop”. You literally could pass this place a hundred times and not know it was behind the building that faces the street. Anyways, Annie’s Pizza did a nice business there and built it up to a point where they could sell it, which didn’t work out so well for the new owners. OIP must have came along and scooped this location up in hopes that the new FAU Football stadium and traffic would help build a pizza business.

Nick’s New Haven Pizza Boca Raton, FL

Well over a year ago, a fellow foodie and I went to try Nick’s New Haven Style Pizza in Lake Worth, when it was still located downtown. Maybe it was just the time of day we went, or maybe the fact we had several pizzas before we got there, but neither of us were impressed with Nick’s Pizza or apizza (as they call it) at all. Eventually they closed the Lake Worth location, and decided to open instead in Boca Raton, since the crowd here must know even less about pizza than they did in Lake Worth (or they would have remained opened there). I mean, open a fancy place in Boca Raton, spend lots of money, put some cute girls behind the bar and hostess stand, and voila, a place has to succeed.

A couple of guys and I went to Nick’s New Have Style Pizza during the first week it opened at its new Boca Raton location, just to try the pizza out first. Initially we ordered a plain pie and hoped for the best.

There is no doubt that Nick’s New Haven Pizza spared no expense on remodeling the place, as it was decorated immaculately. They really took their time making this pizza joint an inviting and comfortable setting. To the west end of the restaurant is their enormous Pizza ovens, which left me salivating for the pizza that was about to come out.

Rosso Italia Pizza Boca Raton Wyndham Garden Hotel

The Wyndham Garden Hotel in Boca Raton just got a new restaurant inside, where Mario’s used to be housed. Rosso Italia just opened up and after a beautiful redesign I decided to go check it out and see how their pizza tasted. Rosso Italia is owned by the same people who brought us Red The Steakhouse in Miami. Red The Steakhouse is internationally known as one of the finest places to get a Steak while in Miami. Luckily enough for those of us who reside in Boca Raton, Rosso Italia is connected to Red The Steak house in the Wyndham Garden Hotel in the Boca Raton location, so we get two upscale restaurants in one convenient location.

Although Rosso Italia has a pretty extensive menu, I went there with one thought in mind. Pizza Pizza Pizza. Upon walking into the modern, open restaurant, my eyes immediately were drawn to the pizza oven, which is almost in front of you. Rosso Italia uses a gas oven here for their pizza, so I was curious to see how it would taste, since some friends who went there said it was Neapolitan style pizza. Neapolitan style pizza is usually cooked in a wood burning oven, so I was hopeful they would get it right, and serve me up a good tasting pizza.

Two New Yorkers Pizza Boca Raton

Out in the South West portion of Boca Raton lies a pretty dead, and unappealing strip mall. Never would have I thought to eat at a place there until many years ago Tony’s Authentic Brooklyn Pizza opened up shop. Many others seem to venture into this plaza, since there is also an Oriental Massage, which I am sure is licensed and sanitary. Well, Tony’s eventually went under and a couple of other pizza guys tried their luck, but also failed. Several months ago I noticed that a new pizza place took over in this west Boca Raton area again. Two New Yorkers is the name of the new joint, so when heading down 441 one day I stopped in to check out what they had going on.

There were a few aesthetic changes inside Two New Yorkers Pizza, but didn’t really seem like much of a difference. Certainly appeared cleaner than some of the other places before it. Typical goombah photos since that is so original a decoration to have in a pizza place. Not sure why pizza places think that by having murderers and criminals on the wall makes it seem like a true Italian pizza place, but to each their own, I guess it is the cheapest way to decorate a place. They should have spent more time and energy designing their website since even some sites that have been up since the creation of the internet (thanks Al Gore) look nicer than the one they have.
