Another Great #Chevypizzacrawl

For those that missed this event, I profusely apologize.  You missed one of the best days that could have been had in South Florida.  Not sure where to even begin….

We started our adventure at Ed Morse Chevrolet in Sunrise, right near the Sawgrass Mills Mall.  After being greeted with some homemade AMAZING cookies from @beahbunnie we were all given a #chevypizzacrawl shirt. We proceeded to mingle a little bit and get to know each other, and then we were read the details of the events.  Immediately after this, I threw some keys and some attendees and we went on our way to the first stop.

Godfather’s Pizza Tigard Oregon

Started in 1973 in Omaha, Godfather’s tried to go elbow to elbow with Pizza Hut, and at the time, Shakey’s.  The chain was spun off to Pillsbury when they thought they wanted to be in the restaurant business. It was at the time they also held Burger King, and a pie chain which I have long since forgotten the name of. Pillsbury got out of the restaurant business, and the chain was the object of an MBO.

Vida Pizza in Fontainebleu Resort Hotel Miami Beach

The Fontainebleu Hotel is Miami Beach is freaking awesome.  Easiest way to put it.  The rooms were nice, the lobby was spectacular, the staff was marvelous, and the pool was breathtaking.  It would seem like the hotel had everything perfect, including Gotham Steakhouse which was fantastic as well.  But when it comes to the food at Vida in the hotel, it is far from perfect.

Although now would be a perfect time to complain about the $80+ breakfast the three of us had one morning at Vida, we will focus instead on what I like to focus on best….The Pizza.

Sosta Pizza Lincoln Road South Beach – Soda Rip Off

Sosta Pizzeria on Lincoln Road, in South Beach, has been a place I have been meaning to try. A friend on Twitter had recommended this place over and over to me and couldn’t wait to see if it was as good as Spris and Piola during previous visits.

It wasn’t easy getting my wife to eat at Sosta.  We were having a mini vacation at the Fontainebleu Hotel (amazingly beautiful) and the last thing she wanted to hear me say was “hey, let’s go get pizza.” We stopped by Sosta along the way and she looked at the menu, which was handed over to us by some frowning girl.  This hostess appeared like she could care less to help us, and it made for an extremely univiting impression.

Augy’s Hawaiian Sicilian Pizza Boca Raton

Have you ever wondered what’s in those small plazas with hidden doorways in the back and with parking lots not visible to the eye from the streets? Well, this is what Augy’s in Boca Raton, FL. is like. This wouldn’t have been the first time visiting this Italian joint however it was the first time coming in without my friends nor the pizza expert. This time I was left to make my own decision with no preferences and with no recommendations from the expert.

So with that said, I decided to stick with what I knew. Generally when I am at Augy’s I will have the upside down Sicilian pizza pie, or pasta, or even the Stromboli, however pizza’s what I went for today. The only exception was I wanted to add some flavor to it, so I went ahead and made the daring move of ordering pineapple and Canadian bacon on top of the Sicilian. When it arrived at my table, it was no surprise to me that a family owned restaurant would serve a hot fresh pizza, but this one just took complete control of my senses. The sauce was steamy and smelled amazing.

Umberto’s West Boca Raton Pizza

Living in West Boca, there are plenty of places to get pizza but the amount of places that offer quality pizza are pretty slim. I was glad when worstpizza.com introduced me to Umberto’s. It has actually become one of my favorite places to eat pizza.

I’ve tried a few different pizzas at Umberto’s but my favorite pizza by far is their Grandma Pie. I have eaten this pizza more times then I would like to admit. After a long day of work, I love picking up a Grandma Pie from Umberto’s on my way home. The crust is perfectly cooked. The edges are crispy but not rock hard. The cheese is always fresh and delicious.
