Rocco’s Pizza Portland Oregon

I walk by Rocco’s a hundred times a week. It’s across Burnside from Powell’s, and semi-attached to late nite haunt, Rocco’s Bar. I’ve never been in the pizza place, but was walking by today at the appropriate hour, and decided to try a slice. I glanced at the menu board, which was really no help, and the ever so (not) polite counterman pointed me at a blackboard, with today’s slices. OK.

I ordered a slice of “Texas” something, basically a three meat pie, and a small coke. $6.50. Did I hear you right? $5.00 for a slice of pizza and $1.50 for a 12 oz fountain coke?

Cogan’s Pizza Norfolk, VA Best Pizza Norfolk

Every two weeks five weary businessmen descend on Cogan’s Pizza 1901 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, VA 23517 in the Ghent section of Norfolk VA for what we believe to be the best pizza certainly in Norfolk and perhaps the entire Hampton Roads area.

Cogan ‘s decor would be best described as eclectic bordering dingy but that is not what we are there for. The waitresses are a friendly down to earth bunch, some are tatted up with full sleeves etcetera some not so much but they are all fast and attentive.

Our tradition is that each participant order 2 toppings each resulting in a 10 topping pie. You might think that such a pie might be too much but that has never been the case. The pie picture is Sun-dried Tomato, Chorizo, Smoked Gouda, Caper, Salami, Bacon, Green Pepper, Sautéed Mushroom, Proscuitto, and pepperoni.

Blu Pizza e Cucina, South Miami

This post comes from Lore! This is my first time reviewing pizza here and I was quite pleased to have had the opportunity to try Blu Pizza in South Miami. I had the Cheese Pizza it was great teasting, although the dough could have been a little crispier. I didn’t let the crispiness of the crust bog me down though since the taste of it was great.

This pizza had just the right amount of spices and the tomato sauce was on the sweet side, very flavorful. Just a fabulous combination of flavors. They have a lunch special M-Thursday that includes a smaller version of their pizza and a salad. Even though it was Friday, I was willing to pay full price, but I wanted a smaller pizza (trying to control portions and if I have it infront of me I eat it), but the waiter didn’t want to accomodate. The manager overheard the conversation and I he made sure I was happy and apologized for his staff.

The Onion Pizza Austin Texas

This review comes to us courtesy of Pizzahunt.net. Thanks Brandon for sending it in, and we look forward to seeing more of your reviews here.

So let’s get to work. I didn’t know what to expect from the onion as I have only been in Austin for 4 days. I hope I lose no credit in the hood as pizza is pizza. As I walked up to the place I am trying to take it all in. I can’t stop thinking about the onion magazine. Are they fans of the magazine? Do they just love the taste of onions? Trying to remember anything and everything since I was not planning on starting today. As we walked in we were greeted as if I was walking to my best friend’s house for a party. You are quick to notice it’s a two man show and they aren’t trying to be the prettiest or fanciest place in town. They are two guys making an honest pizza.

Now I am not one for slices unless its 2am and drunk to the point where everything sounds like a great idea. So we skipped the slices that looked good and waited it out for a whole pie. While waiting for our pie, I couldn’t help but notice the people coming in and out and how the guys treated everyone. They had a pretty busy lunch with the local workers coming in for a quick slice to go. I noticed they never ran out of pizza and no slice sat to long, again 2 guys answering phones, taking orders, greeting people, getting slices, making more pizzas and hey even delivering. It was pretty great to see.

Piola Pizza Hallandale Beach – Best Pizza Hallandale Beach

Having experienced the splendor of Piola Pizza in South Beach, it was only logical that as I passed the one in Hallandale Beach with Andy the other day, we should stop and see if this Hallandale location was as good as their other one. Piola has another location in Italy, but the odds of me passing by that one randomly are pretty slim.

Upon entering this Piola Pizza place, I was quickly reminded of their other location, the decor seemed the same, and the staff seemed as uninterested :-). Eventually we were seated, even though the place wasn’t very crowded. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the air conditioning didn’t seem to work properly, and if it was working as good as it could, I feel awful and can understand why the staff was so slow to move.

Duffy’s Sports Bar Pizza Boca Raton

Went with my whole extended family the other day to Duffy’s in Boca Raton the other day while they were visiting. Since my sister has quite a few kids, we decided that Duffy’s would be the right choice, considering how noisy it is.  In my opinion, given the other choices around the area, Duffy’s is a great choice for the family. The kids can go play the video games, or watch one of the dozens of big screen televisions strategically placed throughout the establishment. And to top it all off Duffy’s has a great VIP rewards card, that makes others seem like a joke. Just make sure they do not order the pizza!

Since I am trying to turn over a new leaf and not cause a place that doesn’t specialize in business to lose any customers over their poor quality of pizza, I will not elaborate too much on what I thought.

Big Cheese Pizza Gallup NM

While I love the old motels on Route 66, I picked a crappy one in Gallup. I love the old architecture and neons, especially the ones that say something like “It’s Cooooooooool Inside,” with graphic of a penguin or polar bear, saying they have AC. Or the ones that have a multicolored sign resembling the old NBC peacock bragging about “COLOR TV.”

Long before the days of “Yes, we have HBO”, or “Free continental breakfast and wi-fi in the rooms”. Spoiler alert. Ask very specific questions when checking in at the front desk, especially in the value chains and independents. Overall, though, I find the independents to have better wifi than the value chains (Super 8, Motel 6, Days Inn, etc). Wouldn’t appear to me that the franchisors have standards in this category yet. In any case.

So I am in this crappy motel, in which the neon said “kitchenettes”, but neglected to say that the actual appliances had been removed some time ago, and were for sale in the parking lot. (Hey, it was dark!). So I had a kitchenette sans kitchen. A big empty room. Any further description of the motel would take us far afield from what I started to write about.

Pizza Hut Big Italy Pizza Kansas

Ed Note: Probably something you would never see me eating or reviewing, since I try to stay away from the big cardboard pizza chains, but since @burgerdogboy sent it in, it was well worth printing!

Tooling around somewhere in East J@@@@, or maybe it was Bumf####, Kansas late one night, I pulled into the local burg in search of the local pizza. No such luck. But man, it’s DINNER TIME. Oh, who am I kidding, I don’t eat by the clock! Wait, it could have been Eastern Colorado, I had been food-deprived for a couple hours, so my confusion is understandable. In any case, all to be found was a Pizza Hut, so I decided to try the “Big Italy”, which they have been spending money promoting lately. The “Big Italy” is almost ‘two feet’ of pizza, 18 slices, and promises “Italian spices baked right into Pizza Hut’s signature ‘hand-tossed’ crust.

I am starting to notice that both the Hut and KFC are taking a lesson from sister company Taco Bell’s playbook: take 5 or 6 core ingredients, make them into a different shape, call them something else, and charge a different price point. The appearance of a wide variety menu with no R &D costs.

Best Pizza in Las Vegas is Pizzeria Enzo in Henderson

Safe to say I have found the best pizza located around the greater Las Vegas area.  Just outside of Las Vegas is a town called Henderson.  It is about a 20 minute drive from the Vegas strip. Located in this old Vegas town is one of the best pizza places I have encountered recently. Pizzeria Enzo is without a doubt worth leaving the strip for, in order to get some good pizza.

Funny story how I actually came to learn about Pizzeria Enzo. I grew up in Long Island, where every shopping center has a pizza place. Normally every person swears by their local place, but we were fortunate enough to have a place called Raimo’s nearby. I haven’t met someone from the area who doesn’t brag about the pizza here. Anyways, the owners son went to my high school, so I knew him in passing. Recently I reviewed the pizza at Raimo’s and of course, gave their Sicilian a high slice ranking (even though their website is as ugly as it could get). It really is some of the best out there.
