Social Media Club Palm Beach County Spark – Sponsored by WorstPizza
It isn’t very often that we find an event worthy enough to sponsor and attach our names to. This is obviously one of the first times we are even publicizing our sponsorships of events, since we usually like to lay low and just help out when we can. Social Media Club of Palm Beach County is having a Spark event in West Palm Beach May 7th, and Worstpizza is one of the lead sponsors of the event.
I know worstpizza.com is read around the world, and it seems ridiculous to mention a local West Palm Beach Florida event, but I just wanted to use this opportunity to show other bloggers that it isn’t enough to just be out there on the web, you also have to support your local causes and communities. That is precisely what I am doing. Details of the event can be found here http://socialmediaclubpalmbeachcounty.eventbrite.com. Our favorite Suzanne Boyd of CBS12 will be one of the speakers. She is adorable and should not be missed.
Hope to see you all there.
Battleground Country Club Manalapan, New Jersey

It seems one of the trends we noticed here at the worstpizza offices is that of upscale hotels, bars, and country clubs who have begun serving pizza (or more probably have upgraded their pizza offerings). See as example Boca West. So in that thought process, we recently discovered Battleground Country Club in Manalapan, New Jersey.
Battleground recently invested in a Bari pizza oven, the kind you find in pizzerias all over the New York area. Battleground uses traditional pizza dough, ingredients and techniques to make a pizza that rivals your local pizzeria. The pizza’s themselves are 10’ inch personal pizzas, but are also great for sharing. The Margarita pizza is the most popular, combining all of the classic ingredients: homemade tomato sauce, basil, garlic, fresh mozzarella and finished with extra virgin olive oil. It was delicious, but my son really enjoyed The Bianca, a traditional white pie with mozzarella cheese, ricotta, fresh garlic and extra virgin olive oil.

New Pizza Town New York City NYC

Walking on the streets of New York City I recently passed New Pizza Town. Since I hadn’t stopped to sample any new places, I took the first opportunity to go inside and try it out. It was a small pizzeria, with 4 tables to accommodate those who can’t wait to eat their slice. After living in Florida so long I appreciated the simple elegance of approaching the counterman, ordering a slice and a coke, paying and walking out, slice in hand in under 3 minutes. Imagine the simplicity.
The pizza was good. Fresh, hot, and delicious, just like it says on the ubiquitous white pizza box. Cannot tell you how many other times I ordered pizza from a place, with the same fresh hot and delicious written on the box, only to realize it was stale, cold, and repugnant. One of these days I hope to have a sit down discussion with the guys who make those boxes, and ask them why they continuously lie.

Isabella’s Pizza Fort Lauderdale
While en route to Fort Lauderdale airport, I was informed by my traveling companions (the client who is always late) that our flight was delayed and I should kill time by grabbing some pizza somewhere. I had passed by Isabella’s Pizza on the west side of Federal Highway several times, but the plaza always seemed to have a questionable element hanging around there. Since the plaza seemed empty on this day, I figured it was time to go give it a try.
Upon walking into Isabella’s Pizza, I was greeted warmly by the staff behind the counter. It was unclear to me if I was forced to wait for a server, or if it was ok to actually get my one slice of pizza by myself. I waited a little bit for the pizza guy to get off the phone, and asked him if I could get a slice. He didn’t seem to understand my English, so I waited for someone else to speak with. He informed me that I could get slices here, so I ordered one and waited.

Interesting Infographic from Esposito’s Pizza
Some of the toppings that people put on their pizza around the world shock me. Not sure how some of these pies are even considered pizza in the first place. Who would even want to sample with some of them. Esposito’s Pizza & Grande Pizza put this infographic out to help show Pizza Consumption Around the World.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with what an infographic is, think of it as a way to visually explain a bunch of facts and statistics visually so that anyone who looks at it can make sense of the topic. Here, Esposito’s Pizza and Grande Pizza took probably weeks of work and put it into this visual graphic.Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Sfuzzi Pizza Bar Uptown Dallas, TX

Got a last minute call the other day to go to Dallas, and sit down with some clients. After our meeting, my host surprised me and told me we would be meeting another mutual associate in Uptown Dallas for some Pizza at a place named Sfuzzi that he heard was the new chic place.
We sat down outside on a rather windy Dallas evening, and were greeted by an extremely nice server. Each and every time I go to Dallas, I am quite impressed with how nice most of the natives are. Not sure what the schools teach the people when it comes to manners, but whatever it is, it seems to work pretty well.

Fratelli Pizza Bayshore Long Island
During my previous trip to Long Island, I was fortunate enough to have my sister take me to some new pizza places I had never tried before on the South Shore. We made it through Oakdale, Islip, and Bayshore. Before heading out and trying all these alleged great places, I did some research to make sure what others were saying about them on the InterWebs. All of these places had great reviews so I figured we would be embarking on some great slices of pizza. While en route to try some of these other “great” pizza places, I passed by Fratelli Pizzeria in a strip mall and asked my sister to stop so I could randomly try a place.
Fratelli’s Pizza is a place where the family who owns it works there. They have not outgrown their space, and their egos haven’t outgrown their community. You know the places I am talking about, the ones that started off in a single store location, and kept expanding before ultimately redesigning the establishment and losing all the old school pizza ambiance they once possessed. I see these places all over Long Island. This was a definite plus to me that they remained a mom and pop joint.

#PizzaTweetup at Grande Pizza Boca Raton Recap

Thanks to everyone for coming out last night to Grande Pizza in Boca Raton and making the first #pizzatweetup of 2011 a huge success. Almost 60 people showed up throughout the night to enjoy some pretty amazing pizza. For those of you who tried their signature Detroit Style – Crusty Cheese Pizza, I am sure you would agree that it is a delicious and unique pie. It was one of the reason we chose Grande Pizza this time around.
Many attendees weren’t aware that Grande Pizza also owns Esposito’s Pizza in Davie, and that they are two of the only places down in the ENTIRE South Florida region that makes this “Detroit Style” pizza.

Giovanni’s Pizza Coral Springs

While going to the Burlington Coat Factory in Coral Springs the other day, I noticed that Giovanni’s opened up in the same plaza. Apparently it has been there for a while, but since I seldom make it down those ways, I had no idea that they had another location even. The Giovanni’s Pizza I had in Boca Raton, although not a town favorite, had a deep dish pie that I liked. I didn’t like it because it was extraordinary, but liked it because it was different and a nice change of pace when I wanted to try some Chicago Style Pizza.

Vote for Worstpizza.com in the Foodies Section of the Sun Sentinel BOB Awards
Please vote for WorstPizza in the Sun-Sentinel Best of Blog Awards (BOB). We are nominated in the Foodies category. Although it s a relatively pain in the butt sign up process, once you do it you can vote daily, and I would truly appreciate your votes. It would be nice to win the award for the second year in a row. A lot of hard work goes into keeping the site updated regularly, and this is one of the few ways I would ever ask readers to give back.
Thanks in advance!
