Trattoria Lombardi’s Pizza Ocean City, MD

For over 34 years, “Trattoria Lombardi’s” has been spinning out some of the best old school pizzas in the Mid-Atlantic.  This family run restaurant in Ocean City, Maryland may have decorations and recipes out of the late 1970s but the place smells great and more importantly tastes great!

As you walk in from a day at the beach, you can’t help but catch the amazing aroma that fills the air at Lombardi’s.   At first glance, you almost feel like you’ve  entered the bar on “Cheers” and yet Norm is nowhere to be found.  Coincidentally, I’m fairly certain that if I ever lived in Ocean City, I’d be there until everybody knew my name. This place is definitely a favorite of the locals!

PL8 Pizza Fort Lauderdale, FL

Before heading to the Sleigh Bells concert at Revolution in Fort Lauderdale with Andy, we decided to grab a bite to eat since we were early, and didn’t expect to find parking so quickly. Andy said he is a fan of this place in downtown Lauderdale called PL8 which has a bunch of appetizer types of food that tables can share. Like the  $4 parmesan wedges that are really just a potato and a half dressed with some cheese. Yay! I feel so happy paying $4 for 1.5 potatoes, what a deal. Or the $4 Brick Oven Garlic Bread, which ended up being nothing more than pizza dough with some basil and oil. Anyways, I decided to get the pizza there, but first let’s start off with what happened when we arrived.

PL8 in Fort Lauderdale seemed pretty busy on this evening. We expected a wait but we were happily surprised to find out there currently was no wait from the hostess, and that we were the next people in line. We asked how long and she told us “since you are next in line it could be about 10-15 minutes”. Since that wasn’t a long time we walked around to look at the other places nearby and came back to wait for a bit. When we returned to PL8 we couldn’t be more ecstatic to see a table getting up.

Jersey Johnny’s Pizza Boynton Beach, FL

Vito’s in Boynton Beach recently sold, or closed, I never really got the full story. It was upsetting to me, because Vito’s was a great tasting, amazingly fair priced pizza. Recently I received a couple of emails telling me that the new place that opened there named Jersey Johnny’s Pizza, was pretty good and that I should try it out. Even the owner sent me an email to alert me that they had a change of ownership, and that I should come try it since “it would be worth my time to try it out”. Usually when an owner sends me an email, it must be good, since they realize I am negative at times, and scrutinize everything. It shows tremendous confidence when they choose to invite me in. I was looking forward to some good pizza.

Upon walking into Jersey Johnny’s Pizza in Boynton Beach, you can tell that not much had changed from the previous owners. Still a nice open seating area, but I was kind of confused if I should order from the counter, or if i needed a server to hand me my one slice of pizza I wanted to try. Even though she told me “one minute I will be right with you”, I still ended up just going to the counter myself to see what they had.

Sapori Ristorante Italiano Pizza New York City

Since this is my first review on @worstpizza I decided to begin things with a wonderful first impression. Yes, I know…just what Midtown needed, another average pizza place. So when I was lucky enough to be invited to attend a preview of this New York City authentic Italian wood fired brick oven pizza restaurant named Sapori Ristorante Italiano, I went with trepidation, expecting to find a pizza like I have eaten so many times prior. But after tasting Sapori Pizza I must say I was blown away!

Sapori Ristorante Italiano is located blocks away from the Empire State Building. This could usually be the sign of a tourist trap kind of place. But the owners of Sapori Ristorante Italiano created a perfect ambiance that made me feel comfortable and welcomed, honestly almost like I was in some medieval town in Italy. Sapori has outdoor seating for the warmer months, which considering how mild the temperature has been this winter, was probably not a bad thing for them, and every seat in the house has a great view of the wood burning pizza oven (which was hand crafted beautifully!).

Brooklyn Square Pizza Seaford, NY

On my previous trip to Long Island, we decided to take several days and drive around on another mini pizza tour. During this pizza escapade, 4 of us hopped in the truck and began our journey, not knowing which pizza we would eat. Four brave souls, risking eating where we knew good pizza was, but choosing to try out some random new places we passed. Since we started around Syosset, we jumped on the 135 and headed south to the end, which is in Seaford (hence the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway). Once off the highway we headed west and the first pizza place we noticed was Brooklyn Square Pizza on Merrick Road in Seaford.

Once seeing the name, one of my friends in the truck said he heard this pizza was supposed to be reminiscent of Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn, which for those of you who don’t know, could easily be one of the best pizza slices in the country. I, personally couldn’t wait to try it out and see if it was anything even remotely close to the pizza I have had at Spumoni Gardens.

Pizza Supreme Garden City Long Island

Some of my pizza contemporaries happen to like Pizza Supreme in Garden City. Usually a place that has been opened since 1958, cannot be too bad, and I’m sure they’ve built up thousands of loyal customers in the process. I’d bet that they would all swear its the best of the best. Why not? We all do so swear about our neighborhood pizzerias. To do otherwise would be a sacrilege. So its hard to argue with 53 years of success. Not me. I don’t care if you’re in business 100 years. You’d better bring your A game when you hand me a slice of pizza.

Buca Di Beppo Wellington, FL

I was pretty upset when the Buca Di Beppo closed in Fort Lauderdale, it used to be one of my favorite places to go and pig out at. The management there was exceptional, and it just always seemed like a comfortable place to go and enjoy some pasta. There was another Buca Di Beppo in Wellington, FL that opened a few years ago, that used to be great, but when the woman running the place Becky (I think was her name) left, it seemed to go down the tubes in my opinion, and I stopped going there, since the food came out wrong several times.

When I was visiting a friend in nearby Lake Worth (way out west), we decided to go take the families and eat, and Buca Di Beppo in Wellington seemed like a great choice, especially since he had a coupon. So we headed over there and waited for about 20 minutes, until we were seated. The best part about any Buca Di Beppo is the ability to sit in the kitchen, and if you haven’t tried it yet, it is worth the experience. You get to see all the food being made, and the staff shows you the dishes and explains them before they head out to the tables to be served.

Casola’s Pizza Miami

Ok, here is where I make some enemies of long time readers who reside in Miami. Casola’s Pizza is not that good! Yes I know, that many of you consider this to be the Best Pizza in Miami, and will question all my other reviews and how valid they are now that I have gone against one of your favorite places, but let me show you the photos and explain. I think you might see things my way.

During a previous review from one of our trusted experts, Mike went to Casola’s Pizza and had a below average veggie slice. Yes, it was I, who told him he was nuts, that it must have been a bad day, since the last time I went to Casola’s, I enjoyed it very much, and considered Casola’s Pizza one of the best slices in Miami. Well that was until I had Slice n Ice, which is now closed.

The Story Behind Pizza Grandiosa the Best Frozen Pizza in Norway

Pizza Grandiosa was created in 1980 and little did people know back then that it would be the most popular pizza in all of Norway. Since then 400 million Grandiosa pizzas have been sold and it has become the favorite pizza among people. The pizza is bought frozen in boxes, meant for people to bring home and heat up.

Norwegians eat approximately 24 million Grandiosa pizzas a year, and approximately 48 million frozen pizzas a year, meaning that more than one Grandiosa pizza is eaten every second. Keep in mind there are less than 5 million people living in Norway.

Capri Pizza Delray Beach, FL Chicago Deep Dish?

Passed by a new place in Delray Beach, west of the main happening area on Atlantic called Capri Pizza. It was located across from the courthouse and police station. This is where the neighborhood gets rough. Yet another business owner decided to take a shot and open a place here, although many prior have failed, been robbed, or just left empty. Hopefully Capri Pizza is good enough to last. I had to circle back around and find out.

Everything about Capri Pizza in Delray Beach seems to be about Chicago Style Pizza, so I was a bit taken back when I only saw Sicilian looking pizza on display. As you can see in the photo, this is nothing like Chicago Deep Dish pizza everyone expects. It made me wonder if the owner had actually been to Chicago. I ordered a plain slice and started to look around this joint. Mobster photos all around this place. Not so original, since every other place already has them.
