D’Angelo Pizza Fort Lauderdale or Maybe Pizza D’Angelo

When D’Angelo Pizza first opened up, my friend Willie suggested we go and try it and see what it was about. We had heard it was the same owner as the renowned Casa D’Angelo which had won plenty of awards and accolades from local reviewers. Guess the owner thought he should jump on the Wood Fired Pizza wagon, and opened up this incredibly chic place on Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.

Upon walking into D’Angelo Pizza you cannot help but feel comfortable, but in a trendy kind of way. No expense was spared while decorating the place, and build out. Most of the delicious looking food is out on display as you walk towards your table. You are also able to smell the food you are about to eat, as you walk past their oversized outdoor patio section. Perfect for the two months a year we have pleasant enough weather to eat outdoors.

Isabella’s Pizza Fort Lauderdale

While en route to Fort Lauderdale airport, I was informed by my traveling companions (the client who is always late) that our flight was delayed and I should kill time by grabbing some pizza somewhere. I had passed by Isabella’s Pizza on the west side of Federal Highway several times, but the plaza always seemed to have a questionable element hanging around there. Since the plaza seemed empty on this day, I figured it was time to go give it a try.

Upon walking into Isabella’s Pizza, I was greeted warmly by the staff behind the counter. It was unclear to me if I was forced to wait for a server, or if it was ok to actually get my one slice of pizza by myself. I waited a little bit for the pizza guy to get off the phone, and asked him if I could get a slice. He didn’t seem to understand my English, so I waited for someone else to speak with. He informed me that I could get slices here, so I ordered one and waited.

Interesting Infographic from Esposito’s Pizza

Some of the toppings that people put on their pizza around the world shock me. Not sure how some of these pies are even considered pizza in the first place. Who would even want to sample with some of them. Esposito’s Pizza & Grande Pizza put this infographic out to help show Pizza Consumption Around the World.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with what an infographic is, think of it as a way to visually explain a bunch of facts and statistics visually so that anyone who looks at it can make sense of the topic. Here, Esposito’s Pizza and Grande Pizza took probably weeks of work and put it into this visual graphic.Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Pizza Loft Davie, Fl

Went to Pizza Loft in Davie the other day, located right outside Nova Southeastern University.  This could easily be the only place that was still in business in this shopping center. Seeing how it was the sole location that was open, I was a bit reluctant to even walk into the doors, and what a mistake that would have been.

Upon walking through the door you realize just how old this place is. There are photos from the 70’s on the wall, with the original owner. Jeff Cohen who owns the place takes pride in the celebrities he has served at this spot. Usually it is a good sign when a place can survive for 30 years down here in the land of snowbirds. I went with Andy and JB, we ordered a Sicilian Pie.

Empire Pizza Fort Lauderdale, FL

After leaving a downton Fort Lauderdale street festival, I decided to stop at a place I had passed numerous times, and never stopped to try. Empire Pizza recently opened on the North West side of Broward Blvd. and US-1 in the CVS strip mall. I had recalled eating at another Empire Pizza at the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, but wasn’t sure if it was the same place. It appears they have moved from the Sawgrass Mall into this new location downtown.

When I walked in I noticed that there was only one slice of Sicilian and I overheard the guy before me order one, so I asked the pizza cook if he had any others. The pizza cook couldn’t seem to be any less enthusiastic.  He basically ignored me and I walked further down the counter to get my answer. I happened to really like that Empire Pizza has their menus on a tv screen. This was a cool aspect. The girl by the register told me they had another Sicilian slice so I ordered one and one. After ordering I made my way to find a clean table, which was actually quite hard to find. For a place that wasn’t too crowded, the tables needed some cleaning since they were dirty in my opinion.

Pizza and Porn – OK in the Dorm, Not OK at the Restaurant

Squiggy’s in Fort Lauderdale needs a serious scrub down before I’ll ever eat there again. I don’t want to be a prude, but I’m kind of picky about what I want around my food. Other people having sex on the counter where my pizza is being made? Not on my list of things I consider kosher.

Here’s how it went down, for anyone who hasn’t already seen this in the news. A film maker named Pervert Pete (I’m guessing that’s a pseudonym) has a website called CrazyClubChicks.com on which he promotes porn scene videos at various voyeuristic and public places around Florida. His latest is a two-part series of movies filmed at Squiggy’s.

Carlucci’s Pizza Fort Lauderdale

It had been a long time since my old friend that owned Carlucci’s in Parkland moved away, and I hadn’t really eaten at onc since. When the opportunity came to meet an associate from Fort Lauderdale somewhere in between, I recalled that there was another Carlucci’s off Cypress Creek Road in Northern Ft. Lauderdale. We agreed to meet at this location for lunch.

I purposely arrived early to see if I could find the owner, who was the brother to my friend from Parkland….wasn’t sure he even owned this place anymore. Low and behold there he was, and after so many years of not seeing him, he hadn’t changed a bit. Took him a few looks to recognize me, but after giving me a nasty “why the hell are you staring at me guy” kind of look, he said “Craig”? After a hug and a handshake he threw a slice in the oven for me, and we started talking about the old days together.
