Sal’s Pizza Near Town Center Mall Closed

sals_pizza.jpgIn what appears to be pattern for the lower quality pizza joints in Boca Raton, Sal’s Pizza has closed down by the Town Center Mall. Although we were never fans of the pizza at Sal’s, I really enjoyed the summer specials they used to have with pasta. Used to go there quite often many years ago. During our recent visits for pizza, none of us thought it was worth the effort of going back.

We hate to see all these places fail, like Sal’s, Big Louies, Old Town Tavern, Prima Pizza etc, but it goes to show…if you are not serving quality, your customers will let you know by not coming back. Simple changes could help keep you in business. Such as keeping the place spotless, I always felt kind of dirty in Sal’s for some reason.

If you are a local pizza place and you are having troubles making it work, please contact us and we will do our best to provide insights on different ways to improve your pizza and your overall pizza. Our intention is not to hurt business, but rather to show you what you are doing wrong, in hopes you can improve.

So long Sal’s. To my knowledge all other Sal’s have remained open. If you know of one closing please contact us.

Mi Pi: Boca West Country Club Pizza

mi_pi.jpgbocawestcountryclub.jpgThe newest Pizzeria to open in Boca Raton, FL isn’t in a shopping plaza or strip-mall.  It’s in an upscale country club, which is not usually a place I’d go for pizza.  And unfortunately, unless you’re a member or friends with a member, you can’t go to either.  But the pizza at My Pi isn’t an afterthought, or just something to put on the menu.  It is the central theme of the restaurant; from the name, to the giant pizza oven in the middle of the room.

Nino’s Pizza Boca Raton Made Me Matzo Pizza

Since the owner of Nino’s hasn’t already won we me over, by serving some of the best pizza in Boca Raton, Forida, a couple of nights ago he ensured I could never forget him.  We were eating at this other place in Nino’s shopping center and I figured I would stop by and say hello to Marco, the owner.  I saw a box of King David Matzo sitting on the counter and asked why he had it.  He explained that him and the owner of Pastrami Queen were experimenting the other night with making Matzo (Matza) Pizza in the real pizza oven.  When he offered to make me one, I couldn’t resist.  Considering that it was Matzo….it actually wasn’t that bad.  Just goes to show you, that if you use quality ingredients in your sauce, and high quality cheese, you can make anything taste decent.  This Matzo Pizza tasted better then some of the other locat places around town. Here are the photos:

Tucci’s Pizza Boca Raton

tucci's pizza.jpgFor all those who haven’t ventured out lately in the Boca Raton area, or haven’t read my previous posts, Red Rock Pizza has closed down recently.  Although we all loved the taste and quality that came along with Red Rock, you will be happy to know that Tucci‘s picks up where they left off.

When I first entered the new Tucci’s Pizza place on 50 NE 1st avenue in Boca Raton, near Mizner (561) 620-2930, I immediately noticed how cleaned up the placed look.

Stella’s Pizza Boca Raton Not Perinni’s Anymore

stella's pizza boca raton.jpegAt first we thought that Perinni’s Pizza in Boca Raton was going to close for good. Later we heard rumors that they were trying to move into the Peace a Pizza location on Yamato, this was never confirmed. Then we heard they were closing again. Just when you thought the saga was coming to an end, we heard they were looking at the location where Bloomin Newmans pizza was. I couldn’t take all the speculating stories being sent to me, so I decided to look beneath the cheese and see what might be going on out west in Boca Raton pizza land.

Big Louie’s Pizza Closed Boca Location

Big Louie's Pizza After what seems like a pretty decent run for Big Louie’s Pizza in Boca Raton, they finally shut the doors.  This doesn’t really come as a surprise considering the location they were in.  Big Louie’s was located in one of the most hideous shopping centers in Boca Raton, next to the 7-eleven, and right near the head shop.  During the few occasions I ate there, prior to having this site, I never found Big Louie’s to be a place I craved.  The dough was airy, and the cheese and sauce did not taste like they were made out the finest ingredients.  They were more like a Papa John’s Pizza place where you can sit down and eat.  During my last visit there, many years ago, I had ants on the table and that is when I decided Big Louie’s was not for me.

While the Boca Raton location has closed, you can still eat at Big Louie’s Pizza at their other locations, if you cannot find anything better around your area.

Rotelli’s Pizza Boca Raton – Not Even Close To Being World Famous

img_0573Went to Rotelli’s in Boca Raton, over by the tri-rail station the other day with Big G for some lunch.  I never realized this, but their menu claims that they have world famous pizza!  Yup this little chain of pizza places has some of the WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS PIZZA!  HA HA HA HA

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING FAMOUS IN MY OPINION!

img_05721Here is a photo to prove they make this claim.

I do not think that some of the best places I have tried in the world make a claim like this.  Places like Spumoni Gardens and the like could make claims like this all day.  But how could they, when Rotelli’s is in fact making some of the Worlds Famous Pizza.  This brings us to a good point.  If a pizza place has to advertise and write down on their menu that they are the best, or world famous, or anything similar, it is usually because they are not and need a way to make you try their mediocre pizza anyways.

Today’s pizza did not taste so great in my opinion.  This is a major problem with Rotelli’s…..consistency.  You can go to the same place twice in a day and taste two very dissimilar pizza slices.  You can go to two different Rotelli’s locations back to back and taste pizza that has nothing in common.  If you watch them make the pie while you are sitting down waiting for the waitress to bring you the slices, (since the walk to the counter 2 feet I think) since it could be dangerous to get them yourself and sit down, you will notice they don’t even look at how they are making the pizza.  Just rush rush rush, get it in the oven and move on.  A place like Rotelli’s, at least in this location by the tri-rail station only has a lunch crowd.  This means if you deliver quality pizza to your lunch goers, you will have them ordering at night.  Obviously this is not the case in this location.  The place is pretty much dead during the dinner hours.

Rotelli’s gets 3 out of 8 slices for today’s visit and I think I will have to just stop going to this location since sometimes it is good and sometimes it is so so.  Cannot take the chance that it will be so so anymore.  One good point to Rotelli, is that they happen to at least have a decent website!

Second Visit To Pizza Time Boca Raton Best Pizza

img_0568img_0567Went back to Pizza Time in Boca Raton to give a quick test if the pizza was as good as our previous review stated.  This time I ordered the same 2 slices I got last time.  One regular and one Sicilian.

The regular came out looking odd, and was very wide but very short, which made holding the pizza kind of backward, at least compared to what I am used to.  The Sicilian was a corner (which I am not crazy about).  Now for the review:

The regular slice was crispy and held together nicely, considering the size of the slice.  The cheese was perfect and there was just the right amount of sauce.  The sauce seemed a little off today and very little taste.

The Sicilian slice also had a nice crust and a nice tasting cheese, with a perfect amount placed on it.  Once again the sauce wasn’t so sweet as last time.  If you are going to put sauce on top of the Sicilian slice when it comes out of the oven, you should at least make sure it tastes perfect.

In my opinion, their Sicilian slices are much better then their regular.  Either way this is certainly a place not to avoid, and worth going out of the way for.

Pizza Time in Boca Raton gets 5 out of 8 slices for this visit.
