Ah the provolone pie! We went to Franny’s the other night and tried a uniquely deliciously pie. It had provolone piccante, tomato sauce, and onions.

It’s quite refreshing to see another cheese compete for the spot light on pizza’s center stage. Far too few pizzerias are willing to venture outside the mozzarella safe zone. This pie is an edible monument towards the glory that is provolone. Every other ingredient is (for better or worse) an aftertaste.

All good things come out of Brooklyn, don’t they? The Dodgers, my Grandma, and damn good pizza.

And eventually, all good things that come out of Brooklyn migrate somewhere else. The Dodgers went to Los Angeles, my Grandma went to Century Village, and Authentic Brooklyn Pizza came to Boca Raton.

This post comes from our friend Kristin at Small Reviews: I’ve been waiting to try Grimaldi’s pizza for about three years, so yesterday, when Roger and I happened to find ourselves in Dumbo for a gallery opening, we decided to finally try it. After waiting on line outside for about 40 minutes, we finally entered the building, which is decorated with a lot of Frank Sinatra pictures and red-checkered tablecloths. It was crowded and we sat between two other couples, which was fine. We ordered two cokes and a pizza.

picture-021 We have been getting dozens of emails asking us if we know what happened to Di Fara Pizza in Flatbush, Brooklyn. It appears that the place has been closed recently, and our readers are concerned it might be closed down for good.
