Pizzeria Oceano Lantana, FL Best Pizza Lantana

in Lantana. Although we agreed that Tucci's Pizza in Boca Raton was delicious, and The Sicilian Oven in Lighthouse Point as well, for some reason I just never really listened to him and went. After a long time had gone by without seeing each other, we decided to go on a pizza crawl at a few pizza joints towards the North. Initially we were going to go to Pizzeria Oceano, then Nick's Apizza in Lake Worth, and then venture out to some random place we hoped to pass on the way home. We never made it to the third.

Let me start off by mentioning that YOU NEED TO EAT THIS PIZZA!

Pizzeria Oceano is one of those places that I get dozens of emails about, recommending that I try it, since it is the so called "best pizza" around the area. So besides all these emails, the fact that John (who knows food) thinks it is up there with the best pizzas he has ever had, put a pretty high bar on this place.

We ventured out on a cold Florida evening, I think it was like 42 degrees out this night, so yes for all those from the North East, this was in fact cold. Parking wasn't easy, and not sure why since there wasn't much going on. When we walked up to Pizzeria Oceano, I looked at John and asked "this is the place you think is so amazing?" It didn't look like much, just a patio outside with nobody eating there (obviously due to the weather) and a counter top with a couple of seats inside. When I looked at the pizza maker, I was wondering if I was in Woodstock and he forgot to shave for a few days. The place was quaint, don't get me wrong, and the smell was overwhelmingly inviting.

Since there are only like 5 counter stools and two tables inside, we waited for a while to be seated. As every patron left I heard them talking about how delicious the pizza was here at Pizzeria Oceano. This is usually a good sign, and I couldn't wait to get my pie. Upon scanning the menu, I realized that the owner brings in all the food and vegetables fresh from local suppliers, and his menu could change daily. Apparently there is no changing the kind of pizza he is serving though, so be prepared for this if you should go. You should also be prepared to pay with cash only, since Pizzeria Oceano does not accept credit cards or checks. Since we are at it, you should be prepared to wait, since seating is limited inside, and you need a nice day to sit outside on the patio.

The pie came out extremely quick, and I immediately was disappointed with the amount of crust on the edged compared to pizza on the pie. The sauce and cheese should have gone up a bit further. My first bite was pure bliss, the fresh homemade mozzarella melted in my mouth, and as the sweet homemade sauce met the roof of my mouth, I thought this could be one of the best pies I have ever tasted. As for the crust, it was a bit overcooked, which was fine, since the fruitful olive oil seeped into the well done edge and made for a delightful combination.

Pizzeria Oceano is probably one of the best pizzas I have tasted in the country, and I certainly wish I had tried this before putting out my top ten pizza places in the country for 2010. If they keep up this incredible pizza, I am sure they will make it for 2011. YOU NEED TO GO AND TRY THIS PLACE!
