Sal's Pizza in Boca Raton has a couple of locations. The one we went to on this completely overcast and pouring rain kind of evening was in the Garden Shops. I haven't ever really been a fan of any of the Sal's pizzas that I have eaten so I wasn't hopeful for anything different out of this location.

We got some Mozzarella Sticks and ordered an individual pie on the well done side each. Of course I got mine plain, since that is the best way to truly taste a pizza and compare it to other plain pies you have previous had. The guest I had joining me had meatball on his.

It didn't take that long for this individual pizza from Sal's to arrive on the table. We were the second table occupied in this Italian Restaurant on this evening. I was about to put some parmesan cheese on the pizza when I remembered my golden rule. ALWAY'S LOOK UNDER THE CHEESE TOP! Boy am I glad I did this. As you can see from the photo, Sal's does not clean their cheese shakers and I find it utterly gross. How hard is it to have the staff clean them nightly when they refill these decrepit shakers. Needless to say, I didn't put any cheese on the pizza after this.

The Pizza at Sal's wasn't exactly as well done as I had requested, but nevertheless I went in for my first bite. As I held the slice to my mouth, the flour was falling off the edges and the bottom, and I didn't think this pizza was made with love and care. After the first bite I was a little surprised that it tasted decent. I expected it to be as terrible as Domino's Pizza, but it actually wasn't made with awful ingredients. The cheese was fresh and was tasty on top of the lightly applied sauce which had a hint of an aftertaste to it. The crust would have tasted way better if it didn't contain the excess flour, and if the pizza was cooked a bit more.

Although Sal's Pizza in Boca Raton, the one in the Garden Shops had many negatives against it, I would probably go back if they cleaned their stuff once in a while, and put a little more care when making the pie.
