Pizza and Porn – OK in the Dorm, Not OK at the Restaurant

in Fort Lauderdale needs a serious scrub down before I'll ever eat there again. I don't want to be a prude, but I'm kind of picky about what I want around my food. Other people having sex on the counter where my pizza is being made? Not on my list of things I consider kosher.
Here's how it went down, for anyone who hasn't already seen this in the news. A film maker named Pervert Pete (I'm guessing that's a pseudonym) has a website called CrazyClubChicks.com on which he promotes porn scene videos at various voyeuristic and public places around Florida. His latest is a two-part series of movies filmed at Squiggy's.
The videos were shot a few weeks apart and were done in full public view behind the cook line. Obviously, legal precautions were taken (no one under 18 admitted, etc.) during the live filming, but customers were going in and out (pardon the pun) as the filming progressed. Many got a nice eyefull and even a free show as topless girls basted pizza crusts and then got... shall we say ìseducedî on countertops in the kitchen.
Apparently, I'm not alone in my assessment that this might have been a good, short-term publicity stunt, but it's not exactly a great idea. The Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation's Division of Hotels and Restaurants agrees with me.
According to the Broward Palm Beach New Times, there are at least five infractions that Squiggy's may have made here:
Unauthorized personnel in the kitchen
Cross contamination
Risk of food borne illnesses
Proper hygienic practices
Food contact surfaces clean and sanitized†
The problem? No inspector actually saw the event (and is fessing up to it), so no charges can be filed. Viewing the porno created as the event doesn't count, apparently. Currently, the Florida Dept of Business & Professional Regulations has no complaints listed against Squiggy's.
I have a complaint, though, and I'm airing it here. One of the best things about Squiggy's is their greasy pizza. But now? I'm a little concerned that there may be more in that pizza than just tomato sauce and cheese, perhaps the greasy part isn't grease at all. So unless they get a scrub down and deep fumigation, I'm not going there again.
