Sometimes you walk into a pizza place like Piacere Wood Fired Pizza in Boca Raton and within thirty seconds you already know what kind of experience you're about to have.

The smell hits you before you even find your table. Wood smoke. Fresh dough. Tomato sauce. Those three smells have convinced me to order pizza at places where I probably should have walked right back out the door. Fortunately, Piacere wasn't one of those places.

I ordered the plain cheese pizza because if a restaurant can't make a good cheese pizza, I don't really care how amazing their truffle burrata prosciutto fig reduction pizza is.

And while we're on the subject, it seems like every restaurant these days has discovered the words "wood fired." It's becoming the pizza equivalent of every apartment complex calling itself "luxury." Sometimes it's true. Sometimes they just painted the front door.

Fortunately, Piacere Wood Fired Pizza in Boca Raton actually delivers on the promise.

The pizza came out surprisingly fast, especially for a wood-fired oven. That's always a good sign because nobody enjoys sitting around watching other people's pizzas go by while wondering if the kitchen forgot about them.

The first thing I noticed was how good it looked. The crust had that perfect leopard spotting everyone loves to photograph these days. The fresh mozzarella wasn't dumped on as an afterthought. The sauce looked bright instead of looking like it had been sitting in the back of a kitchen all afternoon.

More importantly...It smelled incredible. People don't talk enough about the smell of pizza. Before you take the first bite, your brain has already decided whether it's excited or disappointed.

This one passed the smell test.

The first bite confirmed it. The crust had a nice chew without becoming work. The sauce had enough tomato flavor to stand out without overpowering everything else. The fresh mozzarella gave you those creamy pockets of cheese every few bites instead of covering the entire pie.

Nothing was overdone. Nothing was underdone. It was simply a really enjoyable pizza.

Now before everyone starts emailing me asking if this is the greatest pizza in South Florida...No.

There wasn't that one bite at Piacere Wood Fired Pizza in Boca Raton Raton that made me stop talking and stare at the pizza like I'd just uncovered some hidden treasure. It didn't completely blow me away.

But here's the thing. Not every pizza has to. Sometimes you're just looking for a really good pizza that comes out hot, fresh, and leaves you thinking, "Yeah...I'd definitely come back." That's exactly what Piacere did.

I'd absolutely order it again if I found myself in Boca looking for wood-fired pizza.

Not every review ends with fireworks, and that's okay. Piacere isn't trying to reinvent pizza or pile on gimmicks. It's simply serving a fresh, well-made wood-fired pizza with quality ingredients that tastes every bit as good as it smells. For me, that's a solid 6 out of 8 slices. It is located near Tuccis Pizza which is a local favorite so that could make things tougher on them.

Would I drive across South Florida just for it? No. Would I stop if I was already in Boca and craving pizza? Absolutely.
