On a dead back street just east of Federal Highway in Boca Raton sits a pizza location that can never seem to stay in business. We have seen several pizza places make a valiant attempt to remain open on SE 1st ave here, but since there is no signage on Federal Highway, and since the location is not so close to walk to from the buildings on Palmetto, outside of delivery it is hard to attract people to come. This didn't stop OIP Original Italian Pizza from opening at this spot in Boca Raton. Prior to OIP Original Italian Pizza, it was Fatso's Pizza, and Amato's Pizza (which was good) and I forget the previous names before them.

Andy and I decided to go try it out since neither of us had been there before, and both wanted the taste of something new around town. Not much had changed inside OIP since the new owners bought the location about 5-6 months ago. One of my favorite things about the previous pizza owners in this location was that none of them made me go through the stupid, moronic process of having a server bring me my pizza slices. Luckily enough Original Italian Pizza chose to continue with this policy.

I ordered just one slice of pizza and got some garlic knots, specifically since they said knots and not rolls. They didn't have any ready but were making them fresh as I ordered, so I decided to wait for them. When my slice came out, it was quite big, and looked pretty awesome. Upon lifting it to take my first bite, I was delighted with how well the slice held up. The cheese tasted good, and the sauce combined with this fresh tasting cheese had an all around quality taste, almost fruity and juicy if you could imagine. The sauce was solid and not overpowering. I was quite happy with this place.

The garlic knots came out and were really good. I ordered a few more, since they were hot out of the oven and tasted better than most other places in Boca Raton. Try them if they are fresh.

One thing that bothered me is that they say they cook in Brick Ovens but all I saw were the Bakers Pride? Maybe by putting bricks above these generic ovens, somehow makes them brick ovens nowadays? I am not sure, but it is deceiving guys.

If you are around the eastern part of Boca Raton and want a quality slice of pizza, that shouldn't disappoint you, I recommend you give OIP Original Italian Pizza a try. I know I will be back.
