I have some family that lives up in Indian River County. For a long time, he kept telling me about the delicious garlic knots located at a place called Giuseppe's Pizza in Fellsmere, Florida. We passed by a few times but they weren't open on the days we went. For those of you who are wondering where Fellsmere, FL even is, it is just to the west of 95, North of Vero Beach, and West of Sebastian. There really isn't much going on in this town, in my opinion, so it is likely you never will have to visit there.

Giuseppe's Pizza was open the other day as we passed it, and we went inside to get a few pies to feed the family and I had high hopes since I was told by others in Sebastian that this is some of the best pizza in the area.  After ordering the pies, we snacked on an appetizer of Garlic Bread with cheese, which wasn't that good in my opinion, so I started to lose faith in the place.

Usually when I take pizza to go, I try to understand that it won't taste the same as it did fresh out of the oven. The cardboard takes away a good 1 point on our rating scale on average so I give the benefit of the doubt from time to time. When we opened the pizza, I immediately noticed that the sauce didn't appear the way I personally like it. It was chunky, and clumpy and not applied evenly around the pie. But it is tough to judge a pizza pie just on looks. I grabbed my first slice of the regular pie to see what it tasted like.

As soon as I bit in to the pie I could feel the texture of the sauce and the peel sticking to the roof of my mouth. I thoroughly despise this feeling. I am well aware that some people enjoy their pizza with this kind of sauce and others even prefer a chunky sauce, but in my personal opinion, I dislike it. I even tried the meatball pie to see if the meatballs were amazing, but unfortunately they were just average.

The cheese was just average, and the sauce I didn't personally care for. This leaves the crust as my obvious personal favorite part of the pie. It at least seemed to be made with good ingredients, and it was cooked right. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather eat this than that chain pizza store crap, but this is definitely not a pizza I would go all the way out of my way for again.

It dawned on me, the reason people think this is the best pizza in Fellsmere, FL is because it is probably the only pizza. And it seems to have stayed in business for a long time, so I am not looking to ruin what the locals consider good pizza, since they don't have much choice. Giuseppe's seems like a nice family run business and I would never want to see them get hurt. Just change your sauce please!
