Empire Pizza Fort Lauderdale, FL
Slice Rating
After leaving a downton Fort Lauderdale street festival, I decided to stop at a place I had passed numerous times, and never stopped to try. Empire Pizza recently opened on the North West side of Broward Blvd. and US-1 in the CVS strip mall. I had recalled eating at another Empire Pizza at the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, but wasn't sure if it was the same place. It appears they have moved from the Sawgrass Mall into this new location downtown.
When I walked in I noticed that there was only one slice of Sicilian and I overheard the guy before me order one, so I asked the pizza cook if he had any others. The pizza cook couldn't seem to be any less enthusiastic. He basically ignored me and I walked further down the counter to get my answer. I happened to really like that Empire Pizza has their menus on a tv screen. This was a cool aspect. The girl by the register told me they had another Sicilian slice so I ordered one and one. After ordering I made my way to find a clean table, which was actually quite hard to find. For a place that wasn't too crowded, the tables needed some cleaning since they were dirty in my opinion.
When the slices came out, I first picked up my Sicilian slice, and noticed it had some nice weight to it. Unfortunately, my first bite was very bland since it didn't have any sauce or cheese on the area I bit into. It was cooked nicely but a bit bready in my personal opinion. I needed to put on some garlic and cheese on top of the slice in order to taste something. Slice definitely needed more cheese, and the sauce needs some sweetness.
Regular slice was thin and long and couldn't hold itself up even if i gave it viagra. Considering how burnt the bottom crust was, you would expect this slice to hold up a bit better. Sauce to cheese ratio was perfect. This slice would have tasted much better with less flour. Wouldn't get Sicilian again.
Empire Pizza gets 4 out of 8 slices.
