While visiting a friend in Juno Beach, Florida, my wife and I were advised to visit County Line Pizza. Our friend's grandmother said the pizza was excellent. We had to place an order to take out because we were on a tight deadline for time. I must have tried calling five times before finally getting through but I finally was able to place my order. When I went in to pick it up, County Line Pizza was very busy which is always a good sign. There were many families there, enjoying their pizza in this cozy little pizza spot. At the register I started up a casual conversation with the woman who handed me my pizza and she asked me where I was from. Once I told her, she turned to me and said, "you don't have pizza like this in Boca Raton." I'll give her this, she was right.

If you have read my previous reviews, you know I like toppings on my pizza. I was told by the people I would be sharing the pie with that I could have free run with the toppings, so I decided on eggplant, roasted garlic and meatballs. Once we got to the house, which was only five minutes away, I immediately dove in. The first thing I noticed is that the pie was cut into tiny pieces. I'm not talking slices, I'm talking about tiny squares - almost like bite sized pieces. I was told this that they are well known for cutting their pizza that way and we all know it's not the size of the slice but the amount of flavor that it brings so I didn't let this bother me.

When I first picked up my tiny little piece of pizza, the first thing I noticed was the texture of the bottom of the slice. It wasn't over or undercooked, it just had a rough feeling to it underneath. It felt like gravel and upon further inspection it had little pieces of grains or seeds. I called up the pizza expert and was told that these are pieces of cornmeal. Although the cornmeal caught me off guard, it didn't deter from the taste.

When it comes to describing the taste, I immediately look for things that I notice and then move on to the key elements - cheese, crust, toppings, and my least favorite of any pizza - the sauce. The one thing that stood out about this pizza was the eggplant. The eggplant was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, not too oily and not burnt. It was probably the best eggplant that I have ever had on top of pizza. The cheese was OK. I'm not the cheese expert but I know when cheese is great or awful. This cheese was somewhere in the middle. The crust was a little weird to me but I mentioned that earlier. The garlic was OK too. I like that the garlic flavor spread throughout the whole pizza. The meatballs were also OK. I like that they were actual sliced meatballs and not meatball crumbles like some places put on their pizza. The sauce was a little on the bitter side but it fit this pizza well so I didn't mind it.

Although we don't have tiny little, grainy pizza with delicious eggplant in Boca, we have places that I consider as good or better and some that I consider not as good. County Line Pizza is a place that I would try again but I wouldn't make the 45 minute drive just to eat there. However, I can see why they are busy. and a local favorite.

I give County Line Pizza 5 out of 8 slices.
