After arriving home to South Florida after an awesome weekend in Vegas, I found myself craving pizza. I had been home for about an hour when I decided to give my good buddy, @lapp, a call and see if he wanted to meet for pizza. We decided to meet at Annie’s Pizza and Subs in Boca Raton over by FAU. He explained to me that it was a little hard to find and you can read about its location in his previous review of Annie’s on worstpizza.com.

I knew that if the marinara maven suggested the place, it would be good. Unless we were trying a place for the first time, he would never intentionally steer me in the wrong direction. However, for those of you who don’t know, @lapp likes his pizza without toppings. I am the complete opposite. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a regular slice of pizza but, for me to really love a slice of pizza, its’ all about the toppings.

The first slice of pizza I tried was the Sicilian slice, which had a nice crispness to the bottom of it. This definitely served the purpose of holding up the extremely large slice. The top of the slice was nice and soft. The sauce was not overbearing, which is a positive in my book. Like I said earlier, I’m all about the toppings, so, although good, it was a little on the bland side for me. Once I added garlic powder, oregano, crushed red pepper and grated cheese, it was a lot better.

The second slice I had was a fresh spinach and eggplant slice. I love eggplant on pizza but that places a lot of importance on the eggplant. I’ve yet to come across pepperoni that has ruined a slice of pizza but with eggplant, if the eggplant is not great, the whole pizza suffers. This pizza had good flavor from the toppings but the eggplant was just okay for the most part. This slice definitely tasted better with grated cheese and crushed red pepper. I do have to note that this slice was huge.

The third and final slice I had was a creamed spinach pizza. I had never had creamed spinach pizza before and was more interested in trying something different than expecting great flavor. I definitely did not expect this slice to taste so delicious. This pizza had great flavor on it’s own. I could taste garlic and spinach right off the bat. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. This complemented the cheese very well. This was by far my favorite slice of the day.

The pizza at Annie’s was good. It was not the greatest pizza I have ever tasted but I would definitely eat there again. I would love to have the creamed spinach pizza again, maybe with some additional toppings. All in all, you can’t go wrong for the price and size of the slices. I give Annie’s Pizza and Subs 5 out of 8 slices.
