victors_slice.jpgVictorspizza.jpgI guess everyone has that acquaintance who seems to think he knows the "best" everything.  He has the best plumber, and the best dentist, even the best tire guy.  Sure, during previous "best" recommendations he managed to fail me.  Like the time he said "I know where the best garlic knots are in New York", and like a fool I actually went there to try them, only to find they were far from the best.  Note to self:  never take advice on anything Italian from an Irish guy.

Well it has happened once again.  He told me he knew where some of the "best" pizza was near his office, and like a fool we followed along to try it out.  We ended up at Victor's Pizza on Route 110 in Melville.  I thought this was Huntington, but even google confirmed it was actually on the Melville side of the street.  Before I go on, I want to mention, that this pizza definitely wasn't the "best" I've had locally, but it certainly wasn't the worst either.

Since he was treating, I ordered two slices and sat down while he waited by the register.  When the slices arrived they looked pretty good.  Yes, the meatball one was mine since I was told they have the "best" meatballs in the area by him too.  My first bite into the slices, was into the meatball topped one.  Although the meatballs were a little too spicy for my liking, the slice under them wasn't too shabby.  After removing each slice of meatball from the pie, and eating them separately, I was able to taste a nice crisp regular slice with a pretty good tasting crust.  Although the crust tasted a bit burnt on the bottom, it still tasted ok.  Victor's should scrape the oven cavity once in a while to clean it out.  The slice also had an abundance of flour on it.  Try to lighten up on that guys!

The Sicilian slice was really good.  It was soft and moist in the center, and had some tasty edging.  The cheese was generously applied, onto a conservative amount of decent tasting sauce.  Quality was the only word I could use to describe the cheese.

Most memorable things:

  • friendly counter staff
  • good garlic knots
  • quality Sicilian slice

Least memorable things:

  • small tables
  • spicy meatballs
  • friend who brought me there

If I ever go back to Victor's again, I will probably get Sicilian and not regular, since I found it to be a much better slice.

Victor's gets 5 out of 8 slices.
