Manhattan Joe’s Boca Raton Long Island Sicilian Pizza
Slice Rating
Many people find Friday to be the best day of the week around the country, even in Boca Raton. I have nothing against Friday's personally, and actually enjoy them as much as the next guy. Thursday is my new favorite day around Boca Raton for pizza though. Why you might ask? Well the answer is simple, it is the day that Manhattan Joe's Pizza makes their Long Island Sicilian pie!
After all my years of writing pizza reviews and living in Boca Raton, I have eaten at many places that create unique pizzas and try to pass them off as something special. Many send me press releases or emails and ultimately just disappoint me once I try it. Manhattan Joe's is one of those quiet killer type of pizza places in Boca Raton. Don't get confused and think they are in Delray Beach, they are on the border. Manhattan Joe's didn't try to lure me in with false promise. They didn't have their fancy PR agency reach out to me and beg me to come in and try their pie. They simply did nothing but let their pizza do the talking, and save a few thousand dollars a month on PR companies along the way.
We have written about Manhattan Joe's before and enjoyed it, especially their Sicilian. Many from Long Island or the surrounding New York area know that it is very difficult to find an excellent Sicilian slice down here. Manhattan Joe's is one of the places that gets their Sicilian slices right. So, we went in like usual when we had the craving and ordered a couple of slices, until we noticed something beautiful sitting on the counter. It was reminiscent of an upside down pie, but it wasn't one. It had garlic sprinkled on it like a grandpa pie, but it wasn't one.
After staring at this pizza for a couple of minutes, I finally asked the owner Joe what it was. He said on Thursday's they make a special Sicilian pie called the Long Island Sicilian, which has sliced mozzarella, sweet sauce, garlic, parmesan and some oil. Needless to say, I had to try this slice.
This Long Island Sicilian was amazing. It was tasty, and had the makings of everything I liked. The crust was crisp, the dough soft, the cheese tasty and generously applied, the sauce sweet and applied on top of some of the pie, and ohhhh the fresh garlic and oil! Well done Joe.
Do yourself a favor and check Manhattan Joe's out on Thursday's and try this Long Island Sicilian.
Manhattan Joe's in Boca Raton gets a 7 out of 8 slices for their Long Island Sicilian.
