There are many high quality pizzerias around the Hollywood area of South Florida. Many of which have already been highlighted here. Obviously, as in each city/town in Florida, there are some crappy places as well. Conca D'Oro Pizza is not one of those place. Passing by Conca D'oro Pizza in Downtown Hollywood the other day reminded me that I hadn't been there to eat pizza there for quite some time. Actually, I think the last time I went there was close to seven years ago, and had a positively mediocre chicken cacciatore and have never been back....The same people that tell me the food is on a par with Mama Mia (not good) also tell me that they have great Sicilian pies.

I decided it was time to go back and try the pizza instead of the dishes they have at Conca D'oro. We tried a Sicilian Pie (12 square slices) and it was a very good pie. The cheese tasted good, the sauce was definitely homemade, and was impressively tasty (a cross between pizza and marinara). The dough tasted pretty good, but certainly wasn't the best part of the pie at Conca D'oro. The only problem I found with the dough was that it was not dense or moist enough for my tastes. One corner slice of the pie had some moisture but the other corner slice didn't.

Anyways, with that being said, Conca D'oro was the closest thing I have found to the New York City Sicilian Pizza I crave weekly. I will be going back regularly to Conca D'oro Pizza in Hollywood, Fl, and I recommend you do the same. Remember, I recommend the Sicilian Pizza and not the dishes.That is not to say the dishes haven't improved in the last seven years either.
