As a native New Yorker who relocated to New Jersey, finding good pizza on this side of the George Washington Bridge can be challenging. Even those with great reputations, while good pizza, are not really on par with what the city has to offer. However, Brooklyn’s Coal-Burning Brick Oven Pizzeria is one of the best in the state of New Jersey in my opinion, and rivals the well known brick oven pizzerias in New York City. I ordered a regular pie with mushrooms and extra cheese, no greens. (I personally do not like basil or oregano, quite similar to Pizza Expert).
The pie at Brooklyn’s Pizzeria in Edgewater, NJ was everything you would expect from a top, brick oven pizzeria. Fresh ingredients, crisp, perfectly cooked crust with a slight char, sweet sauce that was not too spicy and let the quality of the ingredients create the flavor, fresh mozzarella cheese, and fresh mushrooms. It’s one of those pies where you could easily eat the whole thing if you don’t exercise self control, which I almost found myself doing.
My only complaints are that I do not think they put enough cheese on the regular pie, and they really skimp on the mushrooms. For those two issues, I drop the rating one slice.
Just a few other items noteworthy of mention: There are two other New Jersey locations, but this review is limited to the pizzeria in Edgewater. This is a sit down restaurant, no slices. Also, since the pizzeria is in the Edgewater Commons Shopping Center, there is plenty of parking. New Jersey residents who live in parking-challenged places like Hoboken, Jersey City, and a number of suburban towns will appreciate the convenience.
But overall, Brooklyn’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Edgewater, NJ gets an excellent 7 out of 8 slices, and worth the trip to experience some outstanding pizza.
