Another spot on Long Island I spent just about zero time in, is a town called Medford. During my last visit up to Long Island I went with a friend to a bakery he liked and I noticed a pizza place in the corner of the shopping center simply called Pizza Corner. Pizza Corner in Medford didn’t look too bad from the outside, so I ventured in and we ordered a couple of slices.
My friend got a regular slice and I got a Sicilian slice which looked good from behind the display case. It appeared cheesy, and light, and I was looking forward to trying it. We considered getting a couple of garlic knots, but didn’t find those particularly appealing from the counter, so we passed and just waited for the slices to come out of the oven.
When my Sicilian slice came out, it looked undercooked, which upon taking my first bite proved my suspicions correct. I thought about sending it back to get reheated, but I knew my friend had someplace to be, and I didn’t want to be the cause of his delays, since he was nice enough to sit with me. After asking the pizza guy how long it had been sitting, he explained to me it just came out of the oven. Maybe the oven was broke or just not heated properly, but this slice was cold.
In my opinion this Sicilian slice at Pizza Corner in Medford, was mostly bready. Not like a Sicilian pizza slice should taste. It was literally like having a few slices of wonder bread put on top of each other. The sauce tasted like they almost just took tomatos out of a jar and smooshed them. Some people might like this taste and style of sauce, but in my opinion, it just didn’t taste as good as I hoped. The cheese definitely was the best part of the slice, and it tasted good as I peeled it off and ate it alone, leaving the sauce and crust behind.
Maybe this was just an off day at Pizza Corner in Medford, and maybe I should have gotten a regular slice instead, since the one my friend had seemed decent enough, but this Sicilian slice is not something I would go back for. There is no doubt in my mind that their food must be decent from time to time, since the place has remained opened for a while, so don’t just take my word on Pizza Corner in Medford and avoid it. Perhaps just get something other than the Sicilian when you go.
Pizza Corner in Medford gets 3 out of 8 slices for this Sicilian slice.
