Went with my parents to grab some pasta the other night at La Cucina in Smithtown, NY. While we were waiting for our food, the waitress brought us over the delicious looking bar pizza pie, that you see above, which was supposed to be for take out, but never got picked up. The staff was nice enough to present it to us, and boy am I happy they did, as I am sure after reading this post, they will be equally as happy.
There is a place named Eddie’s Pizza in New Hyde Park which is legendary on Long Island for there amazing crisp, thin crust, bar pizza. For those of you who have had the pleasure of stopping by Eddie’s Pizza, you know precisely what I mean when I describe it as delicious. Honestly, I don’t think I have tried many other bar pies throughout the country that can compete with it. Well La Cucina in Smithtown, Long Island comes pretty close and is worth the try.
As I ripped my slice apart form the others, I could feel it flaking off with a delightful crackling sound. Upon lifting the slice from the perfectly sized plate, it held up nicely and was almost see-thru. I mean this slice was thin! The crust tasted amazing, and the lightly applied sauce was put on with a perfect ratio to the cheese. The cheese tasted extremely fresh and was the exact amount needed to keep this thin crust bar pie from falling over and dripping onto the plate. Many other pizza places who make thin crusted pies fail to realize that too much cheese, means too much weight for the crust to hold up. Normally you end up with a mess.
If you live out in Suffolk County and want a different type of pizza than you find at many of the other pizzerias around town, you might want to go check out La Cucina and specifically order the bar pie.
La Cucina in Smithtown gets 6 out of 8 slices for their bar pie.
