It isn’t very often that we find an event worthy enough to sponsor and attach our names to. This is obviously one of the first times we are even publicizing our sponsorships of events, since we usually like to lay low and just help out when we can. Social Media Club of Palm Beach County is having a Spark event in West Palm Beach May 7th, and Worstpizza is one of the lead sponsors of the event.

I know worstpizza.com is read around the world, and it seems ridiculous to mention a local West Palm Beach Florida event, but I just wanted to use this opportunity to show other bloggers that it isn’t enough to just be out there on the web, you also have to support your local causes and communities. It seems one of the trends we noticed here at the worstpizza offices is that of upscale hotels, bars, and country clubs who have begun serving pizza (or more probably have upgraded their pizza offerings). See as example Boca West. So in that thought process, we recently discovered Battleground Country Club in Manalapan, New Jersey.

Battleground recently invested in a Bari pizza oven, the kind you find in pizzerias all over the New York area. Battleground uses traditional pizza dough, ingredients and techniques to make a pizza that rivals your local pizzeria. The pizza’s themselves are 10’ inch personal pizzas, but are also great for sharing. The Margarita pizza is the most popular, combining all of the classic ingredients: homemade tomato sauce, basil, garlic, fresh mozzarella and finished with extra virgin olive oil. It was delicious, but my son really enjoyed The Bianca, a traditional white pie with mozzarella cheese, ricotta, fresh garlic and extra virgin olive oil.

Walking on the streets of New York City I recently passed New Pizza Town. Since I hadn’t stopped to sample any new places, I took the first opportunity to go inside and try it out. It was a small pizzeria, with 4 tables to accommodate those who can’t wait to eat their slice. After living in Florida so long I appreciated the simple elegance of approaching the counterman, ordering a slice and a coke, paying and walking out, slice in hand in under 3 minutes. Imagine the simplicity.

The pizza was good. Fresh, hot, and delicious, just like it says on the ubiquitous white pizza box. Cannot tell you how many other times I ordered pizza from a place, with the same fresh hot and delicious written on the box, only to realize it was stale, cold, and repugnant. One of these days I hope to have a sit down discussion with the guys who make those boxes, and ask them why they continuously lie.
