After leaving a downton Fort Lauderdale street festival, I decided to stop at a place I had passed numerous times, and never stopped to try. Empire Pizza recently opened on the North West side of Broward Blvd. and US-1 in the CVS strip mall. I had recalled eating at another Empire Pizza at the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise, but wasn't sure if it was the same place. It appears they have moved from the Sawgrass Mall into this new location downtown.

When I walked in I noticed that there was only one slice of Sicilian and I overheard the guy before me order one, so I asked the pizza cook if he had any others. The pizza cook couldn't seem to be any less enthusiastic.  He basically ignored me and I walked further down the counter to get my answer. I happened to really like that Empire Pizza has their menus on a tv screen. This was a cool aspect. The girl by the register told me they had another Sicilian slice so I ordered one and one. After ordering I made my way to find a clean table, which was actually quite hard to find. For a place that wasn't too crowded, the tables needed some cleaning since they were dirty in my opinion.

When the slices came out, I first picked up my Sicilian slice, and noticed it had some nice weight to it. Unfortunately, my first bite was very bland since it didn't have any sauce or cheese on the area I bit into.  It was cooked nicely but a bit bready in my personal opinion.  I needed to put on some garlic and cheese on top of the slice in order to taste something.  Slice definitely needed more cheese, and the sauce needs some sweetness.

Regular slice was thin and long and couldn't hold itself up even if i gave it viagra.  Considering how burnt the bottom crust was, you would expect this slice to hold up a bit better. Sauce to cheese ratio was perfect. This slice would have tasted much better with less flour.  Wouldn't get Sicilian again.

Empire Pizza gets 4 out of 8 slices.

We went last night, looking for a quick bite for our family after our flight got in late. I never knew about this place until reading the review here. Its funny how your review of this place, got us to go within days. I guess there is no such thing as bad press. Anyway, my daughter had the last sicilian slice in the case and it was delicious. My regular slice and calzone was great and my son loved his meatball + pepperoni slice. Even Mrs. Pizza liked this place. So for a quick slice where you get to order at the counter, I recommend Empire pizza.

So many people have been telling me to try this place. I happen to go in the other day and had a slice of cheese and a slice of Sicilian like you did. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about their Sicilian pizza (except for this review). I took my first bite and I was in heaven!! Empire pizza cafe has by far the best sicilian pizza ever! (and I’ve been everywhere) The regular slice was delicious also… The sauce was amazing! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick slice… My next trip I’m will be a pasta dish… The penne alla vodka looked so good… And I hear They have the best cheesecake ever!!

Agree 100%—this place is mass produced dogs—! Hit or miss, ordered the same thing two different times and once it was perfect, then they had some “other” guy cooking…(Not Italian) attempt to make a Stromboli they had no problem charging me $12 for, and I got back a lump of uncooked dough and everything inside was cold. Order was to go so I could not do anything. Maybe I need to have a wall oven installed at my desk for if I order from here again.

Does one have to be Italian to cook good Italian food? Some of the finest chefs in the world are a different nationality than what they cook/specialize in. I’ve tried this place about 5 or 6 times already….I’ve never had an issue. All the food is very good – and they are super slammed – it’s pretty impressive how they are able to serve such fresh food, from scratch, so fast! I also think its funny that this “worst pizza guy” thinks he knows everything about pizza. Everyone in the world has different tastes. “Worst pizza guy” is not god.
