My mother in law suggested we try Nauna's Italian Restaurant while driving through Montclair, New Jersey.

They desperately need a new website! But we will not focus on the website now, but if you happen to click on it you will see that they have spent about zero dollars on their attention to it.  I was hoping they spent more time and care on to the pizza I was about to eat.

I wasn't sure if I should get a regular or a Sicilian slice, but since the regular looked a bit old in the display case, I opted for the Sicilian.  Seeing this pie come out of the oven, made me think I was about to have one of the better Sicilian slices I have ever had in New Jersey. It was cooked perfectly, the cheese looked delightful, and the crust seemed perfectly crisp.  I guess looks can be totally deceiving.

In my opinion Nauna's does not use the finest ingredients. Although the slice was truly cooked perfectly (they definitely get this part of the process right), the sauce tasted pretty horrible. The cheese tasted almost buffet style. If they ordered anything from the higher end of the cheese spectrum from their supplier I would be shocked. The crust (although cooked perfect) had almost no flavor to it. The pie was just bland, outside of the taste of the sauce, which really did nothing for me. The staff starred at me the whole time I was eating, which was a bit creepy.

I was kind of surprised to see that Nauna's was recently voted the best pasta & sauce in NJ by the Star Ledger's Munchmoblie.  Obviously these reviewers have not had many other slices of pie, because in my opinion I could almost say with certainty there are better slices to be found around.

It should be noted that our server was truly sweet.  She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, which is a huge plus in my book.  She took pride in working there, and didn't seem like family. So although, maybe I got a weird vibe from the guys behind the counter, the servers seem to give off nothing but a warm...inviting vibe.

Should I ever be in the area again, I will go back to Nauna's to try the regular slice, since so many of their local fans swear by it. I wonder how many of those reviews around the web are actually real though.... we will find out.

Nauna's Bella Casa gets 3 out of 8 slices.

I'm a long time Nauna's customer and in fact, I always get the Sicilian pie. Every Friday night at about 6:30 I pick one up, probably for about the past 16 years. It's become a big part of our family's “together time”; Friday night Sicilian. I guess you can see where I'm going here, I think you are completely off the make criticizing their Sicilian pie, it's the best around. We get it with just cheese, margarita or with sundried tomato & artichokes and it's always relly great.
It's unfortunate you would choose to select the best pizza in the area and criticize it,(they were just given that distinction by NJ magazine) there are a dozen or so local places that aren't nearly as good as Nauna's.

What is the goal here anyway? To sell pizzerias websites and marketing information? Sorry, but this place smells fishy………

I don’t know what your gripe is with Nauna’s. They rock! Obviously your mother in law must have liked them if she suggested to stop there. Anyone in the area knows it’s not someplace you just notice while driving by. As for the fact that you got a bad slice, maybe you should have mentioned it to someone. I know from experience they stand behind their menu 100%.What’s the deal with you trash talking their website…did your mother in law suggest you go on line. To me you sound like a liar and a jerk. I love Nauna’s!

I think Nauna’s has really good pizza and exceptional pastas, been eating there since I moved to Cedar Grove in 1992. I know food taste is subjective, but it’s a shame that you discredit reputable establishments by having your site called “worst” Why not call it pizza or someting like that. People do a search of the pizzeria and the site say’s worst pizza and you don’t even want to read what is written. Bad business. It’s very unfortunate you do this.

I agree Thr name is a bit harsh and we have out soon as well. My intention isn’t to hurt the business, but they need to serve better food at the same time as well.

Not even close.  Try Bruno’s in Clifton.

IMO, a 3 slice rating is generous. Seeing the mixed reviews on this site, I decided to try it out for myself. The Sicilian looked like it was laying around for a while, so I went with a slice of regular. Big mistake to try anything at all.

They without a doubt use inferior ingredients. The slice was edible, but not by much. The cheese had a funny after taste and the sauce was barely passable. They put herbs and spices on the pizza, likely to mask the lack of quality ingredients. I would give Nauna’s 2 slices out of 8, with a recommendation that when in Montclair, find somewhere else.

You people out there trash talking Nauna’s are full of it…I know first hand the volume that place does, and NOTHING sits around!! Why go through life being a liar and a hater…man up!!! Look in the mirror and be critical of what you see, scumbag.

Well tinyon, you seem overly excited about the negative reviews. You know first hand the volume the place does? Really? You are probably an owner of the place that does not like negative reviews. Bottom line is that when people have bad experiences, it’s the establishment that should “man up” as you say. I have been to this place, and the pizza is substandard. It may have been a bad day, or maybe that is just what they do over there.
