Went with my brother in law on a tour of some pizza places throughout Lantana/Lake Worth the other day. We started with N.Y.P.D. Pizza in Lantana, located on 121 S. 3rd Street 561.202.9111. They say on their menu that they have New York’s Finest Brick Oven Pizza, and I was up for the challenge to see if they were right or wrong.
NYPD pizza is a bit run down inside, and located in a pretty run down shopping center. Not usually the place I would pull in to try, and I am sure many others share my sentiment. Perhaps 20 years ago this shopping center might have been deemed nice, but as for now it is in desperate need of an update.
Since I am not here to help as an interior designer, but rather as a Pizza Expert, I will leave the facade of the shopping center to someone else who knows.
When the slice came out of the oven, it looked nicely cooked and was larger then most places. It looked similar to the type of slices I was used to getting in Long Island. For those of you in Boca, it is about the same size as Tomasso’s. The crust was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was smooth. Cheese seemed like a decent quality.
The only problem here is that it kind of was missing any taste. I mean, there was nothing that stood out to make this slice exceptional, which based on its texture and size, it could have very well been. My advice to NYPD Pizza would be to sweeten up your sauce a bit so that my taste-buds at least get ignited for a moment when I swallow. You also might want to switch the flour you use as this could be cause some of that bland taste.
Needless to say, if I am in the area again I would go back and try it again. Even in its bland state, this pizza is better then many of the others in the area. But it is not the finest New York Brick Oven pizza around, as they claim.
NYPD gets 5 out of 8 slices.
