Jonny Garlic’s Italian Grill Palm Harbor, Florida
February 5th, 2010 - By: Andy Vitale
While on a recent trip to Palm Harbor, Florida, I had the opportunity to try out the pizza at Jonny Garlic’s Italian Grill. Jonny Garlic’s is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant and although it hasn’t been open for very long, the space it occupies has been the home to Italian restaurants for quite some time.
The first thing that I noticed was the classic Italian restaurant décor. Although I had never gone to this location before, I think the only thing different about Jonny Garlic’s from the previous establishment were the menus and the sign facing the road. It was clean but it definitely didn’t seem new.
The pizza that I ordered was the Garlic Pie, which is a sauce-less pie, topped with mozzarella, parmesan and romano cheese, roasted garlic and I had them add onions as well. As soon as I picked up the first slice, it was dripping oil. I’m not talking about the good oil drip that is from quality cheese, this was leaking from underneath the pizza. Once I took the first bite my suspicions were confirmed. This could not have been high quality cheese because it was very bland. This pizza tasted like the cheese sticks that are available at Papa John’s. It definitely did not taste like fresh pizza. It was bland and rubbery.
After forcing down three slices in order to give an accurate review, I looked down and saw what reminded me of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. There was a pool of oil on the paper under the pizza that was there to absorb oil. I could not eat another bite, it was way too oily. I had to go to my car and get a Tums before even paying the bill.
In my opinion I would not give Jonny Garlic’s a second chance. The bland slices that were covered in oil made me give Jonny Garlic’s 1 slice. I’m sure there are gas stations in Palm Harbor that serve better pizza.

I love Jonny Garlic's. My favorites are the Kitchen Sink and The Goat Cheese. I have moved to Florida from New England and we have great pizza up north. Southerners do not know how to make pizza. My friends and I all agree that the chewy crust, fresh tomato sauce and real mozzarella makes Jonny Garlic's the best place for pizza in Florida. If you want a great Northern style pizza go to Jonny Garlic's.
Jonny Garlic's is the best think thats happened in Palm Harbor in a very long time
Jonny Garlic's is the best think that has happened in Palm Harbor in a ling time. Keep up the good work.
jonny garlics has a new chef which makes great food. its the new best thing in palm harbor. mind you they changes their name to jonny primos with new chef julio. their pizza is the bomb. maybe you went when the other sloppy chef was there. you should give it another try!
why didnt you just go to a pizza parlor …? seriously the fresh fish and pasta portions are excellent and unlike any thing I've seen in this Early Bird neighborhood in years…..Besides the food portions being tasty and fresh and abundant the price is less than a Martini in a local tampa bay club….I hope this was just a personal blog from some pinellas park local who was lost in North Pinellas as an excuse for Mis information and keeping locals 12 bucks away from a great meal….I'm ordering there tonight and just looking for the number, and tripped on this absurb dispersement of MIs information….JOHNNY GARLIC just the name is novel…..and the food is well worth your own curiosity!!!! p.s Hail the small family business…..
If this is the best thing in palm harbor then palm harbor doesn't have much to offer. I went there with my in-laws and it was a comedy of errors. They are an Italian place right? Guess what pasta you could not order? SPAGHETTI!! My father in law asked for sausage on the side. They brought it to him. It was the only sausage that they use in the place according to the waiter. IT WAS SMOKED SAUSAGE/KEILBASA! and it was cut into 1/8 inch slices. The food was bland at best and the service was hit and miss. I was fooled by the old “Jonny Garlics” trick and I thought it was the same as the Guy Fieri restaurant. NOT!
If you have no palette and live in palm harbor it's your kind of place. It's a joke. You palm harbor-ites should demand better. It makes you look like you don't know anything about food. Maybe you don't.
If you were fooled by a name then maybe it doesnt take much to fool a fool. I wish we all had such talented taste buds as you then we could graduate to LINGUINE!!!
