Description

img_0540img_0541img_0543Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza is located towards the western part of Boca Raton. Just west of Lyons Road actually. Went there with Jimbo the other night. Originally we were going to Mama’s Pizza, but decided to try a place I haven’t reviewed yet. Sorry Mama’s!

Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza has been around for quite a few years now. I remember going to eat there with some friends a long time ago, before we used to watch Alias on ABC. The owner there is very involved and takes great pride in making his customers happy.

It is a quaint dark atmosphere, with a wonderful aroma. Let’s start with the staff. The staff at Steve’s Pizza is amazing. They help each other and make sure you never have an empty glass of soda, and help you along ordering. Smiles are not out of style here. What seems to be out of style here though is a decent portion for the price.

As you can see by my photos above, the pizza wasn’t even the size of a straw. And once cut the slices were about half the size of a fork. For about $10 bucks, I feel ripped off. The pizza was decent, but far from perfect. Cooking in a wood fired oven, doesn’t guarantee that the pizza will actually taste great. The sauce was bland, and needed a bit more of a sweeter taste in my opinion. The crust happened to be crisp and firm, but at the tiny size the slices were, if the crust flopped, this place wouldn’t deserve to stay open.

I will definitely try Steve’s pizza again, since past experiences have been better, but Steve I really suggest either lowering the price of these micro sized pies, or making them a bit bigger. Nobody wants to feel ripped off. Your staff is amazing, and you place is adorable. But there is nothing cute about the size pizza we had.

Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza in Boca Raton gets 4 out of 8 slices, and micro sized slices at that.

It should be pointed out, as Steve himself sent to me..

Looks like they do that so you can fill up on soda since there pizza is micro size.

I agree with this review. I have eaten at Steves at least 20 times. The special pie I order has no cheese, some extra sauce, and some basil on top. It costs $14. That's just too much for such a small pie. I agree that the sauce could be a little more spicy or sweet.

I went into Steve's tonight to give them another chance after a thoroughly bland Pizza last time. I was told that Steve REFUSES to serve me because he didn't like my comment as posted here. Instead of being humble and trying to solve the issues, this arrogant man wants to ban customers who put money in his pocket. I immediately went to Ninos and had a fantastic pizza. Dear Steve, Keep your mediocre product. There are much better places to get pizza in town without your miserable arrogant attitude.

  • Craig (lapp) wrote:

Doctor if this turns out to be correct, this could be the dumbest social media marketing story I have heard. Instead of trying to nuture someone who took the time to try to better his place, he instead bans you!!

  • Dr. Rosen wrote:

    08 Apr 2009 at 11:30 pm

That's exactly what happened. His arrogance and ego is more important than solving his pizza problems to satisfy his customers. Shame on me for giving him another chance. He actually believes he is doing customers a favor by selling them his mediocre micro sized overpriced product.

Excuse me Dr. Rosen. I am a regular at Steve's (mmm mupsa), and happened to be dining there the evening that this incident took place. I also had the unfortunate luck of being seated next to you one evening. You are honestly one of the most uptight, difficult – to – deal – with people on the planet, and I feel that you deserved to be refused service. You are insanely rude and demanding, and that poor girl behind the counter absolutely DID NOT deserve to be treated in the manner that you treated her! I also pity the next pizza place that has to deal with your nonsense.

  • Dr. Rosen wrote:

    16 Apr 2009 at 3:37 pm

    Dear Moronic Brick Oven,

First, you don't know a thing about me, so your statement regarding my demanding nature is ludicrous. Second, I have never, not even once been refused service in any eating establishment or business. Third, the little girl behind the counter was not understanding what I wanted, so I had to repeat it 3 times. Next time, mind your own damn business. Stuff your pie hole with the pizza, and keep your big mouth shut. Everyone except you, including the reviewer, agrees with me about the product that is served in the place. If you want to try decent pizza served with a good attitude, go to Ninos. This product is mediocre, overpriced and if they can't handle customers with specific requirements, they have no business charging their insane prices. If you want to waste your money there, go right ahead.

  • BrickOven wrote:

Dr.rosen, you are a sad individual. I kind of feel sorry for you. What kind of “doctor” has no
Patience? Lololol what a great pun! And by the way I eat steves because it's REAL pizza. Made in a brick oven not your ninos garbage.

  • BrickOven wrote:

    17 Apr 2009 at 1:17 am

Oh yeah and if I recall the girl behind the counter understood you fine, she simply put you in your place by charging you extra for the insane amount of basil you requested…

  • Craig (lapp) wrote:

    17 Apr 2009 at 4:56 am

Ninos is far from garbage. He has made me some pizzas that have been cokparable to some of the best I have ever had in my journies. So if you want readers to actually believe you about steves there is no reason putting down a place that serves pizza at a decent price while still using some of the finest ingredients.

I do agree Steve probably uses good quality and care in his pizzas too, but the price is a bit steep.

  • Dr. Rosen wrote:

    17 Apr 2009 at 8:36 am

Ninos has some of the best Pizza in Boca and they proved to me that they care about their customers.. And for your information, “Brick Oven”, you idiot, eating basil is a lot healthier than cheese. Cheese clogs up your coronary arteries, Extra tomato sauce is very beneficial to the prostate, which every man should be concerned about. And guess what, jackass, $14 for a micro sized pie with sauce, tomato slices and lots of basil is still ridiculous. You are obviously connected with Steve's in some manner and I don't care. You are the only poster here who thinks it's a good value. I never said Steve's product is bad; it's average, but significantly overpriced.

  • Dr. Rosen wrote:

    23 Apr 2009 at 5:24 pm

I figured out that “Brick Oven” is actually Steve himself. Steve, you screwed yourself here, because no one here thinks your product is a good value and the review was accurate. Once some of your customers sample Ninos and for that matter, Pizza Fusion, they will leave you in the dust where you belong with your overpriced “Micro” pies!

Mr. Rosen…… I appreciated the email from you over 1 1/2 years ago complaining about the service at my restaurant. I stand behind my product and I always want to satisfy my customers.
So to make you happy I gave you a $ 50.00 Gift Certificate for a $14.00 meal! Then after you got the gift certificate you posted a negative review on line about us.
If the pizza was not worth the 14.00 why did you keep coming back for 2 years? ohhh I know… Its because Its really the best pizza !!!
As to the your comment that you only wanted a ” little extra” on your pizza is also a lie, we put almost 1 CUP of extra basil and 1 1/2 CUPS of extra sauce, that equals 6 extra toppings and we only charge you for 2 topping plus you got money back for the ” NO CHEESE”
I had personally made your pizza multiple times and no matter what I did you always sent it back, WE MADE YOU NEW PIZZAS over and over again.
After eating the same thing here for 3 years one time you sent the pizza back because you wanted diced tomatoes on the pizza instead of the the sliced tomatoes which has come on all our pizzas for 10 years. To waste perfectly good food and throw it away when there are so many hungry children in the world is a disgrace.
Personally we all think you were trying real hard to show of your manhood in front of your girlfriend by picking on my staff. As for the girl behind the counter Alisa, she graduated from high school 2 years early because of her outstanding academic achievements. Alisa is an A+ student in college taking advanced courses, Mr. Rosen tell me about your children…..
You have actually made such a fool of yourself so many times in front of my customers that you are actually known by the customers of Steves,
as “Doctor Asshole” (perfect for your prostate problem) and those comments about you came unsolicited from our loyal customers. Your behavior has embarrassed your girlfriend I'm sure and to save face you starting coming 5 minutes before closing so there are less people to see your childish behavior.
Unfortunately for me, my staff and our customers we put up with your whiney disposition for 2 years and we were not able to satisfy you, so we suggested maybe trying a new place for pizza and WE ARE VERY HAPPY YOU LOVE NINOS.
Once again you got it wrong !!! “Brick Oven” is not Steve, and I dont need to pretend to be a customer to write back to you, this IS Steve, the owner of Steves Woodfired pizza for 10 years. For a small family owned restaurant with 13 tables and 0ver 25,000 customers I must be doing something right !!!
    Have a great day :)

OK, as I was reading this dialogue, all I could think about was, clearly this “doctor” must be on “disability” if he has so much time to invest in interactively writing critiques about his last lunch. Second, I thought he confirms my theory that all doctors are narcissist and he kept returning because the extra attention you fed him momentarily satisfied his fragile ego (or why else would he continue to return?).

And no you ignoramus, I don't examine anuses. I look at Xrays and MRIs. And you must be gay yourself based upon your last statement or how would you know what it tastes like you disgusting animal. Further, lots of other pizza places give me great service in town so I don't need to eat at Steves who is obviously your gay lover. And far from being sad, I am quite wealthy and can do anything I want. I am not stuck working in a pizza joint or being unemployed like you probably are. Keep eating all that cheese at Steves and I will get you a discount on a cardiac by-pass procedure which you will need.

I see the comments from “Micro Slice” Steve and “Brick Oven” have stopped. I just want to let them all know that I have a fantastic pizza at Ninos in Boca last night. It was huge for the same price as yours and the service was fabulous. As I bit into each flavorful slice, I understood why people put up with the parking and crowds at Ninos. Thank you Steve for providing such a contrast and helping me to appreciate Ninos even more.

I love Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza, the prices are reasonable (pizza sizes are small though), the service is great and the food is Yummy! I typically go there with a coupon and get 2 pizzas for the price of 1. I haven’t eaten in yet, only take out but might actually head in that direction tonight and enjoy the atmosphere and food.

I was raised in New Jersey, home of the best pizzas in the world, and Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza is as good or better than those. The “Pizza Expert” reviewer talks about the pizzas’ being small and thus a ripoff. Not so. You get what you pay for and Steve’s pizzas are well worth the price. If I’m having a bunch of kids over to the house for one of my grandchildren’s birthdays, I’ll order from Rotelli or Pizza Hut or one of the other run of the mill boring pizza places. However, if I’m going out to really enjoy a great pizza, I go to Steve’s. The one thing “Expert Reviewer” got right was that the staff is phenomenal. Thanks Vladimir and thanks Steve!!

Steve’s pizza is a favorite of ours, the pizza’s are loved by both us and our kids, we love the penne pommodoro, and the salad with nuts and gorgonzola as well. Our favorite pizza is pepperoni and pineapple. We always try to save room for the Zeppoli’s for dessert.

This place is a GIANT rip off. Horrible over priced pizza, that compares to pizza you can get at a sports stadium. My wife ordered pasta with ala vodka sauce and it came out all dried out. The staff looks very dis-interested in giving quality service. I would recommend frozen pizza from Publix before I ever recommend this place. Very bad place to eat any type of Italian Cuisine. Steer clear of this place.

Here is my 2 cents. Previously I thought the individual pies were definitely some of the priciest I have seen. Higher than some I have bought in London which is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Now Steves has a medium pie which makes cost drop. I have not tried every single pie. Every one I try is excellent. I have never seen the help, not friendly so I wonder about some of the comments here. I do not know what Steve looks like but he might have served me a few times. Steves is one of the best pies I have ever had. He is consistent no matter who is cooking. I am not big on the coal fired stuff. I think the wood fire makes a better pie anyway. Some of his coupon promos are a litte weird but get on the email list!

So this Dr. Rosen pulls this schtick with everybody for free food? Is this guy even a doctor? Not that I’m defending Steve’s pizza because I too think it’s small, unsatisfying and extremely overpriced, but Jesus all this justifying back in fourth is childish.

  • Johnsmother wrote:

These comments are ridiculous. I have been going to Steves since my son was in diapers and he is almost 9 now. He is always very accomodating, the help is great, and the pizza is as good as Pizzeria Regina in the North End of Boston. You don’t pay 20k for a Bentley do you? He is so nice that he allowed my son to go next door and get a Carvel and sit at his table with it….after I had said no it would be rude, he said no problem….Most places would tell you that you have to order off their dessert menu…..I am appalled at the comments people have made here and no, I am not taking the 10.00 credit.

  • Ceo wrote:

I never leave reviews. So you know how upset I am to actually do this.

I ordered twice from these guys and after the second time they lost me for good.

    – The first time I ordered, the food was good, but the service was “0”-zero. They told me it would take 30 minutes (for one pizza) for TAKE OUT. I waited and arrived at the 30 minute mark, to find out they have not even started my order and waited another 20 minutes, right there as they prepared everything from start. In the end they told me that I have earned $5 in rewards with them for my first order and for giving them my e-mail so they can put me on their newsletter list. So I had $5 in rewards, that I could use next time towards my next purchase.

    – The second time I ordered (Today 10/15/2011). The guy on the phone sounded like he didn’t want to be there (unless he has some kind of a challenge or speech impairment – in which case I apologize for my comment).  He took the order (1 small Pizza and cheese sticks) and said it’ll be done in 35 minutes. I arrived there in 35 minutes, the food was ready this time. I said I have $5 in rewards, that I would like to use towards my purchase today. The young lady helping me claimed I do not have any points, not for today , not for the future, I simply do not have any points in their computer. After I politely argued and asked why would they tell me I did have points last time, if I did not? Another employee came in, punched something on the PC and HE FOUND MY POINTS, I really had $5 in points now, which somehow 2 minutes earlier I was told I did not (by this time my card was swiped already and I could not use my points). So I said, no big deal, I’ll use them next time.

I arrived home, open the pizza box and I see a BURNED PIZZA, badly burned, the edges of it were pitch BLACK and not just spots or circles, but about 15-20% of it was dark BLACK. The middle was a little edible. And to top it all of, the pizza did not fit in the box, so they folded it over to cram it in the box, so 20% of that BURNED pizza pie was crammed and folded over to fit the small box.

I will never order here again, because I do not like to risk having consistently bad customer service, poorly prepared and packed overpriced food and points that cannot be found in their PC when you need to use them.

If I’m going to pay $25.68 for a SMALL pizza and 5 cheese sticks, I want them not badly burned, packed where the food is not destroyed and I want a service with a smile !

In my opinion, this place is a huge rip off with tiny micro sized pies at insane price. The pizza tastes ok but it’s not great.
